Metallic taste from my SXK DoggyStyle

I'm getting a metallic taste from my SXK DoggyStyle irrespective of what I do. It's been working fine but this suddenly started happening. I'm not doing anything differently and I'm using the same wires etc that I've always used. My other tanks are fine.

I've tried different builds (all simple Kanthal, different resistances, spaced and contact), different wattages, different juices, different cotton, different drip tips. I even yelled and wagged my finger at it a few times :p.

I'm new to building but I think I've got my basics right. I check for hot spots and shorts, measure my builds, re-measure after putting the chimney on and I'm doing fine on my other tanks. I build for 1.2-1.4 ohms using 28 AWG and 1.7-1.9 ohms using 30 AWG. I use a regulated mod and vape between 9 and 14W, but I've even tried going outside that range to see if it changed anything (it didn't). I may be doing something wrong inadvertently though.

I'd be very grateful if anyone can help me out with tips or pointers. I love this little tank but this funky metallic taste makes it unusable.

Thanks in advance.

I've had atomizers taste metallic from new because of machine oil, but never had one develop a metallic taste.
I suggest you strip the RTA down to it's components even the screws and o-rings and soak them in hot water with dish soap. Scrub with a tooth brush, then rinse and repeat a few times. If that doesn't work I don't know what else to suggest other than replacement.

You're right I think. I did clean it when I got it but not this thoroughly. Lesson learned. I'm going to do the same for my other tanks this weekend and all new ones from now on.
Sometimes it's on screws or threads somewhere you wouldn't think you would have to clean. Then after time and juice your tasting it. Happened to me months later after flooding a rdta.

That's it! I wicked/filled/something it badly and had it leaking out of the AFC. I wiped it off and it stopped so I thought no further of it. Now, thinking back that's when this began. You're absolutely right.

Thanks for helping clear it up. I probably wouldn't have drawn the connection had you not mentioned it. It's a bit of a relief tbh. Even though it's working fine now I couldn't shake off a nagging doubt that it would happen again. I feel a lot more confident now.

EDIT: Not "probably wouldn't have", I wouldn't have!

Cheers.
