Metallic taste with Spheroid and Terminator

So, I just bought a Spheroid and have had a Terminator for a few months now. I've been making wicks/coils with Vivi Nova's and T3's for quite a while now and have had no problems with taste (T3 would be perfect if I could get one that doesn't leak). With the Spheroid and the Terminator however, I get a metallic taste. I've cleaned them both in rubbing alcohol and then with dish soap, and it doesn't get rid of the metallic taste. I'm not sure if I'm tasting the metal inside or if I'm doing something wrong. I want the Spheroid to work because I spent a decent amount of money on it (and the Terminator), and I really like the idea behind the Spheroid. I have used both with a Provari and a Vamo. I have used both cotton and silica wicks, and use 32 or 34 gauge nichrome, though I've also used 34 gauge kanthal on the Terminator (plus the silver no-resistance wire for the Terminator). I usually wrap 3-6 coils around the wick, and get 1.5-2.2 Ohms. Has anyone got any other ideas? Is there something I'm missing or are my taste buds just super-sensitive to the metallic interior?

Just to add some extra info...been vaping for almost 3 years, and reading this site for most of that time. I just haven't posted anything until now. I've had the Provari for over 2 years and go the Vamo approximately 1 month ago. I can't remember how long I've been using the T3's, but all of the one's I've had have leaked, which is why I went in search of something better. That led me to the Terminator and Spheroid. I've tried a Genesis style tank system, but didn't really like it, though I didn't give it much of a chance, so it was probably mostly my fault that I didn't like it. Anyway, thanks in advance for any tips with the Spheroid.

love my spheri its my go to at work and always in my backup case.

sounds like shorting or hot spotted coils. and maybe even wrapping the wicks too tight.. check the spacing on the coil and make sure the glow is even. bout the only thing i can think of as this is the only time i get a metallic taste.

you may not like the flavor of the stainless in general, sounds silly but do you taste the metal with a SS spoon in your mouth?

So I tried putting an SS spoon in my mouth, but didn't taste anything (great idea, though), but later I noticed the metallic smell when I went to try the Spheroid again. I made multiple coils, got a few with hot-legs, got one without...same taste, though a little less intense. I made one with no resistance wire legs...again, less intense, but still there. I'm thinking at this point it's a sensitivity to the metal and not the coils. I've never had a problem making coils with the T3 or Vivi Nova. Oh well. Thanks for the tips, Thrasher. Maybe I'll get a few more posts and jump through the hoops to get on the classifieds so I can re-sell the Spheroid and Terminator.

I'm with everyone else's sentiments.... but would add: Are you soaking down the wick thoroughly with juice before assembling the base and the bell housing? I've found this makes a night and day difference for me -- I'll coil my Spheroid, check the ohms, then do a few dry burns on the coil brand new in the hopes of leveling out the resistance. Then I'll soak it down heavily with juice, and cook a bit of this off to get a nice layer of oxidation on the coil going, add a drop or 2 more to the wick, and assemble the Spheroid. By the time I've vaped off whats on the wick, everythings flowing well.

One thing to note -- its easy to run the Spheroid dry if you're a chain vaper. Try to limit yourself to a few big puffs, instead of a long run of chaining -- I run myself dry often that way.

Ok, so I burned both the coil and the wick on my stove before assembling the wick, then built the wick/coil and it glowed perfectly with the dry burn. Then I heavily soaked the wick in juice, and put it together. No more metallic taste, but the flavor is still a bit muted. I'm guessing I've over-stuffed the filler, so I'm going to try using less when I get home later. Does that sound about right? Thanks for all the help.

The filler shouldn't effect flavor... In my experience, thats more about coil positioning:

I always try make my coils where the legs are parallel, but facing opposite directions -- think of the the shape of a Z, but with the coil being the center leg, and the vertical legs are the legs of the coil. Position the coil itself dead center, as close to the air hole as possible, and pull the coil legs around the posts in that position. You have to hold the coil/wicks lightly so they don't lose their positioning when you screw down the post, but with a bit of practice it becomes quite easy.
