Hi all
been vaping now for about 20months and really think its the best thing i ever did to get off the cigs.
mix my own juice and now ready for the next step.

Just bought a Russian 91% and a Taifun, read they're suppose to be really good.
Had them for 3 days now and can't get a usable coil. been doing protank 2 +3 coils , loose wrap but all my builds aon these are coming in at less then 1.2 ohms and my SID and Zmax don't like that.
seen there is a thread on resistance wire and coil sizes. you seem to have a wider choice of gauge your side of the pond cans some one help me out with what i've got available on what wire to use , wrap size been trying 2mm and 2.5 mm mini screw driver shaft.
Kanthal A1 AWG34 (0.16002mm) - Approx 70Ω per metre
Kanthal A1 AWG32 (0.20320mm) - Approx 46Ω per metre
Kanthal A1 AWG30 (0.255mm) - Approx 29Ω per metre
Kanthal A1 (0.3mm) - Approx 20Ω per metre
Nichrome 0.12mm - Approx 90Ω per metre
Nichrome 0.15mm - Approx 60Ω per metre
Nichrome 0.20mm - Approx 35Ω per metre

thanks in advance,:( want to get these up and running

Oh it's you! Ha ha...sorry...I posted already...and welcome to you too...again! Have you had a chance to look at those tools and maybe have another go?

I've been wrapping Kanthal A1 .28 with close coils with a 2mm bar and 8 wraps which is coming out around 1.4 Ohms but I was reading on the Steam Engine tool that the sweet spot for my mod was 2.1 Ohms. So I used a 2.5mm bar and wrapped 11 times and ended up with 2.2 Ohms which was more similar to my Aerotank...I've been using this coil all day. Hardly used any juice, getting plenty vape, but I'm using a Kayfun Lite plus....but I believe that the Russian 91% isn't entirely dissimilar. I'm going to experiment further but I was so fed up of failing on trying to rebuild an aerotank that I really wanted to start simple on the Kayfun.

Give this a try... It's one of my favorite higher ohm builds on my kayfuns... 30g on 2mm... I use a 5/64th drill bit... Wrap it tight and close... Not around your wick... Around the drill bit or driver... It'll be a little springy but try to keep it as tight and close as possible... Do 9 wraps... That should put you close to the 2ohm's you're looking for... It'll be a 8/9 wrap.. Let the legs finish of the the side instead of both down...

Now sit it down on the air hole on the deck at a slight angle, about 45 degrees between the posts... Still in the bit / screw driver... Wrap each leg around the screw posts clockwise... I make a full wrap all the way around and pull snug... Now tighten your screws... Now since you still have the bit/screw driver in the coil, use it to "pull up" and adjust the coil so it's sitting about 2mm above the air hole and at about a 45 degree angle like mentioned... Clip your leads...

Now check your resistance... Assuming everything is good put it on your mod and dry fire it... Pulse it at first... It'll burn off some oils and stuff and eventually start to glow... Let it glow nicely (it probably won't be even at first) and then as soon as you let off the button and it's still glowing squeeze the sides of it with a pair of tweezers or pliars... Make sure you don't fire the mod while you're doing this...

Now fire it again... glow... squeeze... glow... squeeze.... After a couple of times you'll find it start to heat from the inside out... it'll start glowing right in the middle, spread outward evenly on both sides and light the whole coil perfectly... Once it does that you're perfect! The coil should be nice and compact...

Here's a pic to show you what I'm talking about...

Now once the coil is in place, grab a cotton ball... organic, sterile, whatever... You can play around with different types later to make sure it's what you want...But take a very small amount... Basically you want JUST enough to fill the coil... Roll it down just a LITTLE... but you still want it fairly fluffy... When you pull it through the coil it should have a LITTLE resistance but BARELY... Now trim the ends so they can lay like the above pic... Yes you can go shorter and some people like to have them just above the deck, but I find especially with this coil the above setup works best...

Make absolutely sure the juice ducts aren't covered by the wick... Wet it with a little juice to make it easy to work with... Again try to get it as close to the above pic as possible...

Now put it back together and fill it... not all the way... make sure you leave an decent air pocket at the top... Give her a go... :)

rusirius,

Excellent write up but I think you meant to say to wrap the legs on the screws in a clockwise direction instead of counter clockwise. I like to check my resistance before I clip the legs off in case I need to make any adjustments but that's just my preference.

LOL! Good catch! You're exactly right.. clockwise... DUH! Lefty loosey righty tighty... LMFAO...

And good point about the legs too... Now that I think about it I do too when working with lower gauge wire, but with 30 I always clip first... Until you said that I never even realized why, just did it unconsciously I guess... But I think it's cause with 30 if I screw something up I just wrap a new one... It's so damn springy that I think it's easier just to make a new one if I screwed something up rather than try to fight with it... LOL
