I was a straight up infantry grunt. Army, two combat deployments. The first time I was deployed they locked us in and sent us off with no warning. My wife didn't even know what country I was in until four days later (we were supposed to be on a half day schedule for the holliday). I don't know how she held it together. We were terribly young (nineteen and twenty) our daughter was only six months old and we were living in a studio apartment in the back of a Veteranarian clinic (dogs barking all night long). We lost my Platoon Sergeant and our medic on the first day and my wife heard that news on the same day that they finally told her were I was. We could write letters but almost never got near a phone. Plus the post office that delivered to our APO went on strike. Nice timing. Oh and to top it off they locked up all of our POV's (cars for those who don't speak military). So my wife was stuck without it until I got home. Not all of the couples made it through, it takes special people to handle that kind of pressure. Plus when you do get back, life is kinda wierd. Luckily I have a wife that is stronger than I ever imagined.

I say support the troops and bring them all home, safe and sound.

My prayers go out to all of you and all of your loved ones.

My daughter is a military wife. My son-in-law is a drill instructor for the marines. He even looks like a drill instructor. They now live in SC but previously lives in San Diego. He has been deployed 2 times. Each time was for a year. They had small children and he has missed 2 years out of their lives. My daughter and I are very close. I understand how difficult this has been for her. Not only do you have to survive on the military pay but trying to raise a family without the father is difficult. Even though he is at home right now being a drill instructor he sometimes works 16-18 hours a day. His sons rarely get to see him during a cycle. My daughter is pregnant with my first granddaughter. Financially they depend on my husband and myself to help them. They barely have enough money to make it from week to week. I don't understand how the government expect military families to survive.

We are all proud of the people who serve in the military and sympathize
with their families.
