Just built A new coil with cotton yarn and i must say it taste so bad that I can't even use it to vape. come out to 1.6 ohms should have been good but yuck if that's what cotton taste like i need some silica wick
cotton shouldnt taste bad unless it's getting burnt, or your not using real cotton. Check the label for 100% pure cotton. Yarn is a bad choice for this as nylon strand is usually added for strength. Nylon would probably not be something you wanted to put on a coil.
when you first install a new coil take a few pulls on it before you put it on the battery to prime it. If you try to hit a dry cotton wick / coil it tastes really bad. Do not ask me how I know.
You could also wet the new wick with a few drops of juice before you put the coil cover back on.
You have to put several drops if juice onto the cotton wick before reassemblying and if your assuming its the cotton your using then take a qtip swab, pull the cotton bud off and twist that in. That was my first taste of cotton in my protank and it vaped just fine with no taste.
You didn't mention what brand of yarn you used. I use Peaches & Cream brand from Walmart, boiled once. The cottony taste goes away pretty quickly, within 3-4 puffs. As mentioned, you need to make sure it is saturated before you take a powered puff or the cotton will burn. Some yarns have acrylic fibers and will melt regardless of saturation. Make sure the yarn you use is 100% cotton.
I to was using peachs and cream from wal-mart i was happy using sylica wick so i think i will just reorder more of it and let the yarn be used for cat toys. was just trying something new because I have read so much about it on here.
Thanks for all the quick replys

Well, or you could just follow the advice - it's good advice!
1. Make sure you pre-soak the wick before use - before you put the chimney on, drop some juice on the wick and coil.
2. Cotton has a break-in period - it's going to taste a bit "cottony" for the first few drags, maybe even for the first 1/4th a tank, but it goes away when the wick is properly saturated, and the result is lovely.
