Curious if anyone else has ever experienced this?

Out of the 3 liquids I ordered, this was the ONLY one that I could smell before I even opened up the package. I thought that was weird, and when I opened it to steep it, it smelled up my entire room.

The smell was KIND of like a coffee-ish smell, but once I tasted it out, and tasted the definite burnt buttery popcorn taste, the smell makes more sense.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Does the liquid just need to sit for a few weeks or something?

I really tried to like it, since I am new to vaping, and heard such great things about HHV......but I got sick after about 5 vapes.....I couldn't take anymore. I had to put the carto away for now.

.its all subjective I know but I'm just curious as to why it would taste like this?

Yes, you will find there are many coffees either taste like popcorn or simply burnt.

BTW...I reviewed this same juice a while ago. I also noted it had a popcorn taste. I am pretty sure many vendors use the flavors from DIY suppliers. The Perfumer's Apprentice coffee is dead on the ones that have a really burnt taste. Capella's cappuccino is dead on the unique flavor I got from Highbrow and a couple others. That flavor is the one I considered somewhat good, but not quite a true coffee. I am willing to bet the ones that taste like popcorn come from another one of the DIY flavor vendors that I haven't tried yet.

THANK YOU! I am so glad to know it isn't just me.

I was utterly surprised by this, because the mocha java smooth seemed to be a good vape for a lot of people.....but after smelling/vaping it I was thinking I HAD to have gotten a bad batch, or something. Good to know you've experienced the same thing.

It is the only e-liquid so far out of 5 total (3 different vendors) that I don't think I can bring myself to vape again. I'm gonna let it steep for a few weeks and give it another shot......by my gosh it is terrible.

It really scared me, because then I started worrying about the other 2 juices I got from HHV........but those fears were alleviated when I tried the blueberry muffin just now......it tastes wonderful.

But yea, immediately after vaping the mocha java smooth, I right away thought that it must be ONE specific flavoring/additive that they put in there, that is just ruining it.

The world thing is, some people say they can taste the mocha/chocolate part.

ALL, and I mean ALL I taste is the burnt popcorn. There is not even a HINT of any other taste. We we see is steeping helps. I'm gonna let it steep for AT LEAST 2 weeks, because I would probably get sick if I smell/vape it again anytime soon.

I got burned popcorn in the beginning but after awhile you start noticing other flavors in it like creamer with slight coffee.
I have been looking for straight coffee flavor with a couple of vendors but I really doubt that real coffee bean flavor without the cream even exists. I guess I will just stick to my usual juices and wait until someone comes up with a good one.
You would think coffee would be an easy thing to make. Perhaps someone needs to just use real coffee extract???

I'm a huge fan of HHV juices and most of my favorites (other than Boba's) are from HHV. But the MJS and Java Smooth are the two I have tried that I just don't like. They taste like popcorn to me - not burnt popcorn - just popcorn.

Other people really love them. But there is definitely a contingent of people, such as you and me, who only get popcorn (or burnt popcorn in your case).

I'm gonna try mixing them with some other juices to see how that works out.

Don't give up on HHV. I'm proof that someone can dislike MJS but LOVE most of their other juices.

I got my HHV mega-order about 5 days ago -- 16 flavors in 30 ml bottles. They spent three and a half weeks in the international postal system steeping, at least partially. I tried them all immediately, and they have virtually no flavor... just the barest hint of what they're supposed to be.

So I steeped them for about 5 days with the caps off, shaking them vigorously every day. No difference.

Finally, out of desperation, I put my MJS in a pyrex cup and put the cup in a big bowl with boiling water multiple times over a 24 hour period. This did intensify the flavor a good bit, though it's still weak.

And that intensified flavor is... cheetos. A sweet, lightly perfumey version of those neon-orange crunchy snack thingies.

This is rather bizarre. I've had my share of crappy coffee vapes, and I know my way around burnt tasting coffee e-juice, but this is something else entirely. Not nice. I keep trying to convince myself that there's coffee, mocha or creamer in there, but it's not working so far.

Frankly, I'm rather scared about the rest of my order. I blew a ton of money on these liquids based on the fanatical rave reviews they regularly get, and I'd sure be unhappy if they didn't reach at least Dekang-level quality in the next week or two.

In the meantime, I'll continue being patient.

ThunderPumpkin: Patience, grasshopper. Those juices don't really begin to steep until you pop the caps and drippers off. I would almost guarantee you that the flavors will come out with some steeping and you'll find several keepers.

I can't help you on the MJS. I think it's just one of those that some folks like and others don't. I've got a vape closet full of juices that came highly recommended . . . and I hated them.

ThunderPumpkin, I *completely* understand where you are coming from, and the feeling of disappointment and fear that you wasted hard earned money after trying the mocha java smooth flavor. Those were my immediate feelings as well. So much so, that I was afraid to vape the other 2 liquids I got, because I was afraid they might taste similar.

Well, today I vaped the blueberry muffin flavor, and I absolutely love it. the COMPLETE opposite of my experience with the mocha java smooth.

Honestly, I don't know what is up with their mocha java smooth......because there is a BIG difference between a juice not satisfying you, or not hitting that spot.....or even the flavor being "off".......and what I experienced. As I mentioned, it was the ONLY liquid that smelled BEFORE I EVEN OPENED THE PACKAGE. Once I took the cap off, it smelled up my ENTIRE room as well, to the point where I had to put it in ANOTHER room to steep because of how intense the smell was in my room.

And the taste wasn't just "off". It was .....I'm not going to attempt to explain it....because besides saying it tasted like burnt butter popcorn.....I really can't explain how bad it was. Not just bad, but so UNLIKE anything that would ever resemble mocha or java that it really boggles my mind what happened. I would chalk it up to a bad batch if it wasn't for the fact that others seem to be experiencing the same thing. Who knows?

Anyway, I like the blueberry muffin enough to where it could actually be an everyday vape for me......I mean on the inhale, you get this nice, fresh blueberry taste......and on the exhale you get this nice, cake batter, cupcake/muffin taste........and they just compliment each other so well. Luckily, as i mentioned above, this was the 30mL I got , thank GOD I didn't get 30ml of the JMS!

Anyway, since I"m new to vaping, this is all a new experience to me.....and I'm a firm believer in turning negative experiences into positive ones. Having tasted JMS, I now know it is important to order samplers instead of 15 or 30ml bottles before you try the flavor. It doesn't matter if other people LOVE it or not....you can't base your taste on other subjective tastes.....

I also learned that just because I cant STAND one liquid from a company, doesn't mean I won't love other juices. The contrast between my feelings for JMS and blueberry muffin are about as polar as feelings can get! lol!

A couple more thoughts to ThunderPumpkin:

First, if you've only been vaping since March, your taste buds may still be adjusting. So don't give up on any juices yet.

Secondly, I would not recommend the speed steeping method you used. Putting a bottle of juice in a plastic bag and then putting it in a pot of warm/hot water is ok. But I wouldn't recommend pouring it into a cup and then into boiling water. You might have scorched it or at least cooked off some of the ingredients and that could have altered the flavor.

In my opinion (which is worth what you paid for it), the best steeping method is caps and drippers off for 2 days, and then patience (and shaking it regularly).

Thanks for your thoughts and encouragement. I'm just going to have to be patient, that much is clear! That, and I'm going to have to do a log of shaking of bottles.

By the way, the speed steeping method I'm using really only warms the juice up and keeps it that way for an hour or so -- the pyrex glass only warms up to maybe 80 or 100º, nowhere near boiling, or even hot to the touch. And the juice doesn't even get that hot.

I haven't tried a "coffee" juice yet that didn't taste like burnt popcorn to me.

I'm glad I've heard a few people say this now. Considering how nasty the JMS tasted to me, I'm going to assume that one of the artificial flavors used in many of the coffee e-liquids just has a popcorn taste to people like me.

Perhaps I'm wrong, and shouldn't be making this assumption.....but considering how new I am to vaping, and how many HUNDREDS upon HUNDREDS of different vendors/e-liquid flavors there are, I think I can afford to skip the coffee flavored ones for now.

I'm going to keep the JMS, and try it in a month or so again, and see how it goes.

I'm on the hunt for a good coffee e-liquid as well. Funny that I stumbled upon this thread because I ordered a kona+blueberry from Apollo and the first thing that came into my mind was that I burnt my cleartomizer! I then added the e-liquid to a blank halo cartomizer and had the same burnt taste. From the bottle, i can smell the kona and the hint of blueberry but I cannot taste it whatsoever. Even the smell from the vape smelt burnt. Its been sitting in the dark for almost a week now, still tastes burnt.

I did however got to try the Apollo's disposable e-cig from a free promo and chose their regular coffee flavor and was quite impressed. It was more on the sweet side but did not taste burnt at all to me.
