So here is a question I had today (since there has been a lot of discussion on battery's lately I might as well add to it).

Is it safe to leave mod battery's in a car for a period of time unattended?

Example: Today was a rather hot day, the woman was getting her hair done. Normally I carry around an eGo Pouch that currently contains an eGo Pass-through, 2x 14500's, 2x 18350's, extra carto, extra atty and a 6ml bottle of juice.
My concern was due to the 30+C weather leaving this in the car could result in some kind of damage to the battery..... or worse damage to my precious vehicle.

Thoughts?

Excellent question about the battery being stored in hot temps! While I carry a genuine Purse....maybe I don't want to lug a few batteries around the beach.

Here's a mention about storage temps & 'most' batteries having a max safe zone of 122 F. That would be cutting it close in hot car on a steamy day. Shall we get mini coolers? ;) I'd like to see what all the MacGruber's have as a solution :)

As i adjust my Gucci Murse, i am thinking you may want to look to someone else for a better answer, as i may be looking at this in the incorrect sense.

On the premises of working for Block Buster years back, and seeing what could happen to video tapes, and how cd's got warped when left in a hot (+30 degree weather), with windows left slightly open with little to no ventilation, i would have to say that yes it would be possible to cause damage to the batteries if not your vehicle.

Have you ever left your smart phone, or any other cell phone for that matter in your vehicle on a hot day, to come back to it and feel how blazing warm it is while being frustrated it would not work? On a smaller scale the cell phone has a "smart" chip which cuts off all power to and from the battery, as the second you turn on said phone or try to make a call on it, then you are basically sitting ground zero of the new cold fusion nuclear bomb, and i am pretty sure you will not get into heaven when St. Peter asks what was the last thing that ran through your mind and you say your own ........

Ok, bad sense of humor time over....

I may not know a lot about this whole proper charger stuff, but i do know about the science (a bit of a contradiction i know....hence i said wait till someone knows more here) but from a chemistry point of view: Batteries use a chemical reaction to produce friction/heat. Said heat is then channeled through the nipple tops and flat bottoms (leave the comments alone) that when placed to metal (say inside a APV) as you know can be harnessed and converted to electricity. Which in a sense allows the batteries to release the gas caused by the chemical reaction, just like taking tums after eating Uncle bills 99 alarm chilli.

I would further say that in 30+ weather, if the windows were rolled up, or you had little to know ventilation, the car then acts as a magnifying glass and you could easily see the temperature jump to +55 or +68, at which time you need to introduce a quick cooling method (same principal of nuclear rods in water)

I know this may look like no baring to what is being said, but it could give a better visualization of what i am talking about above

A gun can fire a bullet with lethal force if stored inside a hot oven.

confirmed

The Mythbusters placed a loaded .38 caliber revolver inside a hot oven pointing towards the oven door. Once the temperature was high enough, the gun automatically discharged and sent the bullet out of the oven, which could potentially kill anybody who happened to be standing in front of the oven.

zer0ith if it seemed like i was talking down to you, or anyone else i am honestly sorry and that was not the intention, i tend to get a little long winded and professor like when it comes to a few topics i enjoy talking about (science is one of them)

Either way i hope this helps, and i am seriously jealous you got +30, we were about +6 and there is a frost warning from what i heard on the radio

Thanks for the input.

Murse is out of the question

It's more my paranoia that I carry that stuff around with me. My VV Reo lasts me nearly 2 days on one set (2x 18350's) of battery's.

What can I say I'm messed up.

Moving away from the murse conversations, you know i was looking for something that could carry my Saber which so far i have found the ego XL carry case, however you cannot fit anything else in there, and getting the plastic carry cases (originally for the 16350's but i modded them for my 16340's) is out of the question,, let alone some boge's and kangers.....yeah i don't go a lot of places in the day, but i am planning in the next year to be traveling so like to have some options

Oh and i checked with the TSA.....they tend to take extra time ummm inspecting a guy who has a murse.....that is all i am saying....(yes i said this as i am planning soon to cross the border to the south)

Fanny pouch? A rigged up belt clip (men are okay with those with their phones, aren't they?). A travel pouch?

If it needs to stay in the car, perhaps get those tinfoil things to put in your windshield to keep the car cool. Or perhaps one of those lunch bag coolers and stick it underneath the seat of your car. I'm coming up with some possible solutions more than answers to the original question, so hopefully that's of some help.

Good idea but may not work. My car is black and will get very hot either way
