I'm wanting to get a mod decided to get a clone as a start and have narrowed it down to 2 but not sure which one to get. The 2 I'm looking at are from hcigar the Chi you and the Nemisis. Could someone please tell me which one is better? Also the guy at my local vape shop said it would be best to use protected batteries to start out with is that true? He is going to build my coils to start out and teach me so I assume he knows what he's saying. Sorry for all the questions and I've done a lot of reading but just want to be safe.

I would go with the Nemesis clone. I have both and the nemmy is awesome - totally bulletproof. Make sure you get one with the magnetic switch upgrade (or do it yourself....very easy to do)......The Chi is a very nice clone too, but the switch on mine is kinda wonky & the ID (inner diameter) isn't really conducive to using a Kick...I mean it can be done, but you need to shove some sort of a 'shim' down there to snug things up.....The Nemmy clone can be Kicked no problem......

I am not sure about using protected batteries on a mech. I use unprotected Sony VTC5's which have a 30amp limit, so they can pretty much take anything you throw at them...I would get any battery in the VTC lineup (3s 4s or 5s) and you should be good to go! Or you could try the new Purple Efests....I have a few of those too & they are great batteries for mech mod use...

I'm also looking at the Kamry k101. Can these mods be used with a sub ohm dripper ?

Sure! Just make sure you have the right batteries. It's very important when sub-ohming to know your exact resistance, because you don't want to exceed the Amp limit on your battery. That's why I recommended the Sony VTC's...They have a 30Amp limit which is pretty high....You could run a .2 Ohm Coil and still be OK (that would pull approx. 20 Amps @ 4 Volts)......so they're safe batteries...

The mod itself is just a "battery holder", so one mod won't sub-ohm better than another....all mech mods are capable of sub-ohming (with the right batteries being used)....Ya gotta remember; mech mods are NOT regulated, so you really have to be comfortable with Ohm's Law to safely sub-ohm....

Third - Verify you have actually learned
Fourth - Make your Purchase and build your own setups.

You can trust your build to someone else but you then have no knowledge to keep you out of trouble should things go wrong.

What can possibly go wrong you think.
Coil wire works a bit loose - how do you know/what do you do?
Coil shifts(maybe gets bumped) and the cap now touches the coil. What will happen? how will you react?

Please don't just go and Buy - Know what and Why

OMG get a stingray clone

it really is a nemesis killer
Silly, it is just prettier.
I love the look of the Stingray but until I get mine I know the Brass Nemesis I have (2) are working perfect and functionally there can be only minor differences between it and any other Mechanical Mod.:)

I have both the chi and the nemesis
and as said above the nemesis is bulletproof, it's a breeze to adjust the batteries and it's telescopic pin design is much easier to get an atty flush..
the chi is a really good device also but it is harder to adjust the batts and attys, the lock ring could get stuck or undone if not careful.

get the nemesis

the magnets are for changing the springs on the button and make it butterly smooth, don't need them but it is a great improvement to the feel of the device

yup....
magnets: check
Nemesis like: check
tons of review: check
HCigar version: check
Fasttech version good review: check

Do not get the Chi as 1st mech clone..as others said..the lock ring sucks..I have one
I heard it's the same issue on the real one...man HCigar really did 1:1 copy even it's faults on the Chi

Get the Stingray clone... it's a Nemmy clone but hits harder

Fasttech: around 27.00 shipped but 5 day delay: then 3-4 weeks to ship to you
HCigar: around 50.00 but with drip tip

Ok I'm ordering the stingray mod. Now I have electrical experience so I'm not totally in the dark here. I have a good multi meter that I use every day so I can check coil ohms. I know to check the coil connection daily and check my dripper often. So all this being said as long as I use 30 amp high drain batteries, know and check my coil ohms often and follow basic safety rules do I need a kick or fuse?

Authentic...I hope you have spare kidney....since most places are out of stock

Clones:
There are three variants which have decent reviews, and one is based on it's reputation, HCigar based on it's other clones...
Ebay of course and if you want .... kissing service from what I heard:
HCigar Stingray Mod Clone

I was one of the lucky ones who was browsing Fasttech, and they had them in stock to ship ASAP, now it's 4-5 days if you're lucky

If you're not rush, head over to Fasttech, read the reviews and pick one, and sit on your thumb..if not..all US sellers are at least 50.00

You can also youtube the current reviews on clones

I have a Nemesis and it is a very nice mod but I hate the lock ring on this style of mod. I like to set my devices down and pick them up fairly regularly amd having to engage the lock ring every time is tiresome. The magnets help but don't prevent unintended fires as the magnets can fail over time. I have also had my tube extensions bind up and become near impossible to loosen. It is not a look for many but I love the Maraxus. Being telescopic and having floating pins means no fiddling to get a battery or atty to fit, just screw it all down and go.

I own both the nemesis and the stingray and I think you're wrong. Its not just the looks, which are better, and not just the stock magnet switch, which is better, or the lower voltage drop, again better, but for me its that floating center pin. It makes changing atomizers and flush mounting them such a breeze.

I really can't see me getting another mech mod until one comes out that improves the stingray

Glad your Happy.
Switch better - Sorry, I'm into the Brass Nemesis and the 2 I have are absolutely Buttery smooth - NO Friction at ALL.
Better looking - I'll give it that one - I also love the look, but don't Vape looks so it is lower in priority.
V-drop - Remember FT is a Brass Clone not the original and v-Drop often depends on proper device prep. No point arguing .01 differences
Floating Pin is also a matter of preference. I have 5 Mods with floating pins and 5 Nemesis. Along with an array of aggravating Fixed pin Mods.(no flush/no way-arrrg!)
All my toppers are Mod dedicated so either way is irrelevant after first setup.

Now, if we were discussing the Original meticulously Machined Phantom Brass Stingray............ I'd accept the argument. :D
No delusions here. I know my Clones are not as tidy as the original.:)

I have both, and would recommend the Maraxus clone over all. Its the most stylish hard hitting mod I own. I bought the original Maraxus last August for $300 with the Atomic Atty, and I will tell you now, the is virtually NO difference in the clone compared to the real one. Only difference I can find is the spikes are not rounded off on the clone as they are on the real Maraxus, and the threading is a bit smoother on the real one.

They both hit just as hard as one another, the firing button is also a blessing, as its all internal, nothing to come loose, nothing to pop out, and because its internal there is NO need for a locking mechanism.

It truely is the best Mod on the market at this point IMO. This Youtuber who owns them all agrees with my sentiment, just copy and paste...
