You could also look at it in the sense that, with mods, the designers are taking something that isn't intended for the purpose, like battery boxes, electrical conduit or copper pipe, and modding it to fit the need. Thus, eGos would no longer be considered mods because they have gone into ground up mass production.

So what makes it a mod then?

Following your definition, it is not a mod. My point, if you trace the term "mod" back to it's origin, then any PV that has a better battery than the traditional 510, 901, 801, 4081, 808 slim 80-100 mAh battery, would be a "mod". The better battery models have all been "modified" to perform better than the orignials I mentioned. Oh, and you should also throw in any "manual" battery PV is technically also a "mod" because they never existed prior to Trog creating the Screwdriver which got the Chinese to start providing them.

That's the way I see it. After all, the term mod is used in other forums, such as cell phone forums, and it isn't to refer to anything that can be purchased that way out of the box. Battery boxes and copper pipe aren't necessarily not intended for ecigs, those items are intended for whatever a tinkerer (modder) wants to make out of them. A cellphone or flashlight mod is taking something and using it for an unintended purpose, either way, if someone changes it or builds it into something else, its a mod. Modified stock car racing (something of an oxymoron), racers race modified stock cars... I don't know if they call them mods or not though.

Like so many other terms, there is no single, standard definition.
