so i recieved my mvp in the mail yesterday i really like the great battery life and the construction of it. However i hated the ego-ish connector that makes the mvp feel LONG! So i decided to take it upon myself to change that

heres some pictures of the connector and the new how it compares in height now to a provari and 650mah twist

Enjoy! And let me know what ya think

Hi. I've certainly never modded anything, so forgive my doltishness -- what exactly was your mod on this? I've been one click away from buying this (credit card info entered and everything), and then that goofy factor that Number Six noted held me back. And does it play well with any and all 510 AND ego threaded cartos/tanks. All this stuff still boggles me quite a bit. Thanks!

I really like Dalton3699's substitution of the flush 510 connector for the MVP stock connector, and I'd like to do the exact same thing. Can anyone tell me what 510 connector I should buy and where to get one? Also, are there any videos that show how to wire and mount one of these connectors? I know my way around a soldering iron, but I haven't done any PV modding so far and I have no idea how panel-mounted connectors are installed in a PV. I've heard that they are "press fit", but I'm not sure what that means ... back in my ham radio days (many years ago, alas), panel-mounted connectors had a threaded tube that went through the panel hole and locked in place with a thin hex nut on the inside ... apparently, panel-mounted connectors in the PV world work differently?

You can get 510 connectors that have a nut. Actually, most of these aren't sold as 510 connectors, but 510-510 shorty adapters (like this). Or you can get a press fit, like this.

Press fit means exactly what the name describes, you press it in to fit. Like wires into the hold, apply some pressure, its in there.

To wire it, solder the positive wire to the center post and the negative wire to the outer shell. Best to remove the center pin and grommet for soldering so you don't melt the grommet.

For press fit, you either have to solder to the inside of the outside shell (does this make sense?) making sure you aren't shorting out on the center pin or positive wire, or install it first, then solder, and pray that you don't melt the case of the mod that its fitted into.

for a thread and nut 510, you can get a circular terminal thingy (real technical term) soldered / crimped onto the negative wire and put it around the outside of the 510 before you screw it on.
