modding a 5v power supply usb box

I'm not sure how much I trust their specs of 1.5A (2A max) output current. That and the way it is strangely written. However considering it is made for 4 18650s and seems to have independent cell charging protection I may be too skeptical. Could just be the plastic box

I bought a similar 3A box like that, just for the hell of it. I'm waiting on some unprotected 18650's to put it through it's paces.

Remember these need
some type of protection circuit.

They are not protected. I used the tabbed version of these and for the price I'm happy.

Hey Rocket, the cells appear to be in parallel. Do you think I could just just go with 3 cells? Foresee any charging/usage problems? 3 will be more than enough mAh and I could use a slot for 'stuff', that way I can leave all the ports on it untouched and fully functional.

I'm shooting for a simple '2fer'. Naked 5V and a switchable diode for ~4.4V.

Three of those cells should easily provide 6000 true mAh.

When it comes in verify they are just connected in parallel and no circuitry isolating the cells. I'm sure 3 would provide buckets of mah
