Hello, I am new to vaping (3 weeks) and to the forum as well. I just wanted to share something with newbies who are interested in mods.
There is a well known battery mod called the puck. You can read about it here The PUCK e-Cig Mod - An e-Cigarette Box Mod You Can Build Cheap and Easy
Well, I just made one tonight, and not only was it cheap, fun to make and easy, it vapes amazing!
it looks a little unorthodox compared to a regular battery, but it works incredibly well.

so.. all you newbies out there with an interest in mods, take the plunge and try one. It is not rocket science, and the results can be incredible. sure beats the pants off my 510 batteries.

I am so glad I found this forum, or I would have given up on vaping for sure.
Thanks all!

A couple things for all you new modders out there about my Puck e-cig battery box mod. It uses standard AAA rechargable batteries you can buy at any grocery or department store (NiMH). It is designed around the 901 atomizer but you can use a 510 if you supply a 510 connector (there is no known substitute for a 510 connector). With a 901 atty, your batteries will last 24 hours on one charge. With a 510, about half that but it still works fine. The parts are cheap and are bought at Radio Shack for ~$10 bucks.

It's easy to build and fun and it only takes a couple hours but take your time. Don't rush it when building and you will have less of a chance of making any mistakes. My tutorial walks you through every step of the way with full color photos of each step.

If you are wanting to build a very effective e-cig mod that's cheap, easy to build and versatile, give it a shot. You won't regret it :)

My goal is to get everyone to start using e-cigs and get off those cancer sticks and the Puck is what allowed me to do that due to the amount of vapor it produces and the battery life. I hope it will do the same for you. :)

ThePuck, this is an awesome thing you've done here! You could have kept this to yourself or even sold them...mad respects to you! Stosh, I'm glad you are way up there in NJ so you'll leave my Radio Shark alone! :p

I smoked regular cigarettes for over 25 years and when the e-cig came along, it was the best thing that happened to me. I tried to use patches, gum, suckers, you name it. nothing worked for me until the e-cig. The e-cig I had was barely just enough though. I needed more. I started experimenting with all types of configuratrions. I made up my mind that I wanted all of my parts to be local and use regular recharable batteries. After months of playing around and experimenting, I arrived at the Puck. It put out more than enough vapor to keep me off cigarettes and the batteries lasted more than a few hours (over 24 hours). This was what I was striving for and hit the magic spot. I never craved in the slightest bit, a regular cigarette ever since.

Since it was enough to keep me off regular cigarettes (for over 2 years now), I figured everyone should have the chance to make one of these for themselves and stay off the cancer sticks. I decided that a really detailed tutorial would be needed so anyone could build one of these without needing any electronics knowledge. They just need to learn how to solder enough to melt some solder on a few connections (which is pretty easy). I put the tutorial up and offered it to the world so they could get a healthier alternative that would keep them happy. It's just my contribution to help keep people healthier and happy at the same time as it did for me.

I could have kept it a secret and probably sold it off for some bucks but I felt the Puck is better served up as a gift to my fellow (ex)smokers out there. I really hope everyone takes the opportunity to build one and give it a go if they are finding it hard to quit regular cigarettes or just need a little more out of thier e-cig.

Very Cool. I can't wait to try this out. I suppose you could use an adapter to take it from a 901 to 510.

Yes you can. I have one I use when testing the performance of 510 attys. It just screws on the Puck connector and the 510 atty screws into it. It extends the length of the atty by about .5 inches but you can get even smaller adapters.

I really like mine, I used a 510 connector that I bought from liberty flights. I soldered directly to the connector, just be sure to pop the center out and pull out the insulator before soldering. You can pop it all back together after it cools down. I am using the 510 tank atomizer and find that it vapes very well. It is WAY better than the standard 510 batteries and produces a ton of vapor. The vapor is a little warmer, and flavor and throat hit is better too. Be aware that it does go through juice a little faster, but any high powered mod will burn up juice faster.

Are there any issues using standard AA batteries and the high current draw that e-cigs require? 4.8v / 2.0 ohms = 2.4 amps

Haven't had any problems with my AA or AAA boxes.
Probably due to 4.8v (5.5v fresh off the charger) at 2.0 ohms would be 11.52 watts, too hot for me. :)
I usually use at least 2.6 ohm or better, I like a bit cooler vape.
