Exactly AttyPops.

Seriously though, what exactly would you like us to do with threads posted in the wrong place? How would people know where to post if we did that?

Keep in mind that most threads that are posted in the wrong forum are done so by new members. Sometimes the same new member will post 2-3 posts in the incorrect forum in the same day. Moving the thread is a gentle reminder that it's in the incorrect place and we are moving it for them so they know where to post.

If you look at the first couple pages in the general forum there are tons of posts that could be moved, but haven't been. If a question is asked and answered, it's moved to the correct forum. The ones that are moved are usually are done for a reason. If I'm having problems with a battery or filling a cartomizer, isn't it easier to glance through the Cartomizer or Battery section instead of the e-liquid section?

All moved threads have a timed redirect, so they shouldn't be difficult for anyone to find. Depending on the type of thread and age, that could be a day, week or a month.

By members request, subforums have been added so threads are moved into that subforum.

For everyone that complains about threads being moved, there are people complaining and asking us to move threads to the correct subforum.

Well, what about the 3 day wait? (See post above my previous one... two back from this.) It would let people see it for a while in "General" before it gets "shelved" in its final home.

Or... you could just let Sarge merge the whole thing. I think if we send him a case or two of something....:)

I can see both sides and there's not an optimal solution. There does need to be some way to categorize things and it's a judgment call. The other problem is that some of the fairly active forums are sub-forums and people don't see them as easily. I do notice that before a thread is moved out of the New Members forum, the mods make sure that the OP has graduated to where they can post there. I generally look at my posts before I go to other parts of the forum.

I do see what you're saying. Unless it's so random, most of the time threads do stay for awhile. It's never moved immediately. It's not all that fun to move posts.

It does seem like the more 'off topic' threads that remain, the more that are added. But like I said, there is a timed redirect on moved threads, so you still see the thread title but the actual thread is removed.

Sometimes threads are moved because they haven't gotten any responses with the hope that if it's in the correct sub-forum they'll get a response.

Does this forum have the option of a ghost link when a thread is moved?
On some of the forums I mod, if I move a post to a more appropriate forum, I have the option of leaving a redirect which can be permanent or expire after 24 hours.
That way people can find it in the original forum and follow it into the new forum, which is infinitely helpful.

Already mentioned: HERE

Oops. My bad.

Then the only real issue is threads moved from newbie forum where noobs can't be involved in the discussion.
Otherwise, I don't see why it's a big deal.

well, i know for a fact that classy at least does NOT move a thread to a different forum until the op has reached the required post count to follow.
not sure if classy is the exception or if all mods try to do the same .....
The OP might be cleared, but others will still miss out on discussion that is actually useful for them even though it could be moved to a different forum.
I'm not saying it's a big issue though. All I'm saying is that should be the only real concern.
The only other thing to consider is that maybe redirects should have longer expiration times, but that's more of a "that'd be nice".

katakonic, the one simple solution to keep track of interesting threads in a forum this large is to post in them at least once. that ensures you can always find them again under ''my posts'' no matter where they have been moved to and they will stay there for about 2 months or so even if you no longer post in them.
