Thomas Hardy was an English Short Story Writer, Novelist, and Poet. Hardy was born in 1840 into a family of London Stonemasons and Builders so he was considered inferior in London's social class divisions. Hardy's poetry and stories were critical of society and focused on social reform and contained characters that portrayed their struggles with social circumstances. During most of Hardy's life, his works where not well received, although society did eventually evolve to broader social acceptance. Late in his life, Hardy received 12 consecutive nominations for a Nobel Prize in Literature.
