MountDo or not MountDo (I say not)

I posted a thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...g-their-desk-while-filling-my-cartomizer.html a few days ago about the horrid taste of V4L MountDo and a few other flavors. In short I found MountDo and LemonLimeAid tasted just like Lemon Pledge smelled and Cola tasted like cheap generic Cola but not "the real thing."

Those were the first 3 cartomizers I tried from my first V4L order of samplers. Since then I've tried quite a few more (some are mentioned in my previous thread) so I've calmed down and am not nearly so worried about flavors. I just love a number of other flavors.

But I really do love my Mountain Dew. Since a couple of folks in my other thread had similar feelings about the taste of V4L MountDo I'm hoping a more general request will help me find a Mountain Dew flavor that's I like.

Basically what I'm looking for is to find folks with tastes similar to mine but who've found a good tasting juice from someone else. I'm posting here since I've sampled quite a few V4L flavors so I can hopefully provide enough info for someone to see if their tastes somewhat line up with mine.

Really quick rundown of flavors from sample cartomizers:
Cuban Cigar: Dry tobacco taste. No weird tastes. No after taste. I like.
French Pipe: Slightly weak tobacco taste. Odd creamy or buttery aftertaste with some sweetness. I'd never say its very tobacco like but I do like it.
Parliment (blue label from sampler): Tobacco. Dry. Kind of bland to me. Don't like, don't dislike.
Kamel: Reminds me of 'tobacco' that comes in starter carts but not as sweet. Ho-hum.
Cowboy: Stronger tobacco flavor. Odd aftertaste but I couldn't say what. Don't really like it.
Virginia: Strong tobacco taste. Just tobacco. Not as smooth as Cuban Cigar to me so not as likable.
Parliment Menthol: My favorite of the 5 flavors in he Mentol lovers #2 sampler. Tobacco taste is there so is menthol. About equal in strengths. I like the tobacco taste and the menthol taste.
Dunhill Menthol: Another with equal parts tobacco and menthol. I just don't care for the tobacco flavor as much as the one in the Parliment Menthol.
Virginia Menthol: First just tobacco flavor then just menthol. No real blend of tastes to me. What's odd is that I like the tobacco taste of this but don't care for the plain Virginia flavor. Don't really like this one.
Cowboy Menthol: Again separate tobacco and menthol tastes without blending but not nearly as separate as the Virginia. I could vape this when I wanted "menthol" but prefer the Parliment and Dunhill more.
Menthol: Umm, its menthol. Just menthol. Tastes like mentol. I want a tobacco and menthol mixture. So although I don't dislike this one its not what I want.
MountDo: Lemon Pledge.
LemonLimeAid: Lemon Pledge.
Cola: Tastes exactly like cheap generic cola. Ho-hum.
Dr. Pepper: Tastes pretty much like the real thing. A pleasant surprise.
Rootbeer: Flavor? I'm sure some people taste something but all I get is the faintest hint of mild sweetness.
Dark Chocolate: Really faint hint a very nice chocolate flavor. Not sweet just yummy if it was just stronger I'd like it.
Red Hot Candy: Very faint sweet cardboard flavor. Don't like
AlomondChocococo: Really faint good chocolate and nut flavor. Much too weak to enjoy.
Milk Chocolate Macadamia: Finally a flavor I can taste. Chocolatey and Macadamia tastes both. More choco on the draw more macadamia on the exhale. Love this stuff.
Raspberry: Disappointingly weak flavor. What's there is good but I hardly taste it.
Coffee: Thought it had a great coffee taste until I tried the Expresso. Now that has a real pure Coffee taste. The coffee flavor is more as I'd drink it with sugar and something that gives it smoothness. I can't say milk but there's something else there. I rather like this one.
Expresso: Very much like the real thing. Good just not a flavor I'd enjoy for hours on end.
Cognac: Fermented distilled grape taste. I wouldn't describe it as Cognac but I can't think of a wine type it tastes more like so I guess Cognac is as good a choice as any. Nice but again not an all day vape for me.

Boy,Your picky!I hope you find some flavors that you like.It takes a while for your taste buds to react properly once you quit smoking.Keep trying.

Bsoplinger...you are on the quest we have all been on (I'm still on it). Your tastes will change, and very reapidly and without any warning. There are several flavors I loved and craved, and sometimes, really, overnight they didn't taste as good to me. Be patient, don't throw anything away, you may end up liking it later.

My tastes don't run exactly like yours, but I could not vape Mountain Do.

The one flavor I don't see that you have tried that is a big hit with many is Ry4. I didn't care for it at first, and now I just love it, it is my primary vape.

Hubby is a big fan of French Pipe and 555, since you like FP, you may enjoy 555 too.

I am a fruit fan, started out loving Banana and Blueberry as faves. Tastes do change over time and currently I've been crazy for Sour Green Apple.

Where our tastes differ is that I don't care for any of the coffee's, but hear that the Carmel Mocha Frapp is popular.

The samplers are good choices to try things, there are two tobacco samplers, the one may have the tobacco's you didn't mention including Kant.

I agree the Parliament Menthol is a good one. Everyone who does menthol seems to love Smilin Menthol. I tried the Nuport and thought that was pretty close to what I remember Nuport to be like. I like Wintergreen, it is really the only mint I will stick with, I'm just not a menthol vaper.

Hope some of these ideas help. I admit I have tried a few other juices from elsewhere after reading reviews. I just don't feel comfortable mentioning them here.

Well you can try smilin 555 and clove, those are pretty good flavors.

Your likes/dislikes are very similar to mine, in fact, what you are tasting in certain flavors is almost identical to what I have found as well. French Pipe? Yeah, finishes with a custard-like taste. Cuban Cigar? Yep, pure tobacco. The aftertaste in the Cowboy? To me it is Honey. One of my favorites, though, is the Virginia. I like the strong tobacco flavor and the woodsy tones.

That said, I would recommend the Parliament Green, rich tobacco taste with a chocolaty undertone.

I love the Espresso, as well as all of the coffee flavors. Carmel Mocha Frappucino is great.

If you liked Dark Chocolate, give the Milk Chocolate a try for a sweeter, creamier taste.

If you like strong fruit flavor, maybe go for the Grape, Strawberry, Sour Green Apple, or Watermelon.

I will add my $0.02 on fruit flavors, I found Blueberry fantastic, apple kiwi strawberry very good, grape quite good, watermelon not so good. And of course, don't forget about Smilin Special - all around excellent combination of chocolate, menthol, and a whiff of coffee. I don't like the soda flavors very much though.

And here I was about to reverse spin the spare MountDo cart I had. They tossed one in as a sample on my first order which contained the soda sampler which also had one in it. You can just imagine how I went from so happy on my excellent fortune (since I got a freebie of it) to downright dejection as I tasted it, and tasted it again, and again, each time desperately wanting it to taste good and every time getting Lemon Pledge.

I did see the other tobacco sampler that's there that I missed on my first pair of orders, I'll have to make sure to get it. But I'm worried if I do like the Kant. Isn't that the one with like a million differently tasting versions? 5ml bottle vs 30ml bottle vs reg carto vs premium carto vs old batch vs new batch vs.… My head really hurts looking at that thread. But I'm also impressed that the folks at V4L care enough that they're going to the trouble to make sure they can get back the 'really good one.'

I have another menthol sampler here and I'm pretty sure there's a Smilin' Menthol in there, I'll have to dig it out to check.

I seem to remember a bunch of those fruit flavors are in the 2 different fruit flavor samplers I looked at but didn't order. I'll have to think about getting them to try also.

I did pull out the CMF from the coffee shop sampler and it is good. I like it at least as much as the plain coffee flavor perhaps more.

Is RY4 or 555 in a sampler? Perhaps the same tobacco one that has Kant?

Parliment green? Just 30ml bottle or is there a carto of this? I've seen Parliment blue but don't remember green.

I liked almost all of the #2 sampler...all except the Dunhall...but I LOVE the dunhall menthol. 555 has quickly become a favorite, and I've gone through 2 bottles in 2 weeks!
Here is a quick rundown of some of my tastes: 555 and Dunhall menthol are my two staples. I love the bananas foster, and this has been on my battery all day! I LOVED the Smilin menthol, but, changing tastebuds have made it not as pleasurable. Peach is very tasty, Ry4 was another one I loved, but changing tastebuds again. Watermelon is very good also. I can't taste strawberry, green apple and most of the chocolate flavors yet. Premium kant cartos are terrific for a tobacco taste that isn't overwhelming.

This all being said, taste is very subjective...even to ourselves. I find I like something one day, and literally the next day it isn't the same. I have also found that I have mood vapes. And, even batteries have an effect on taste (new batteries, even different batteries). On top of that, everything tastes yukky when I am very tired.

This has been a strange journey, to say the least...but I am so happy I am on the journey and not smoking!

Reminds me of what I'm doing. I made a detailed spreadsheet of all the flavors I've tried with ratings. I'm with you on MountDoo Doo and Lemon limeade. In fact, I don't like any of the sodas. Parlament blue is nasty in my opinion. Tastes burnt from the get go.

I'm with you Deez; don't really care for any of the sodas, not horrible (except for Mt. Poo as Adrenalynn has coined it), but not great like many others on the list.

Mt. Poo haha. I remember her calling it that That's definitely the best name for it.

Out of the ones you listed, I have only tried grape and agree with you on that. I like the menthols I've tried a lot but haven't tried the ever-so popular Smilin' Special.

I like the Cola and Dr.Peeper.....but I don't like MountDooDoo. I posted a review on V4L website on MtnDoo. My very first thought was laundry detergent. I'm not sure why ' cause I've never tasted laundry detergent. Very soapy perfum like taste. Bleh.

The proper way to phrase this is: "it tastes like laundry detergent smells"; my guess is you've never had your mouth washed out with soap like I have.

Actually taste is 75% smell, and I'm not sure we're actually "tasting" anything anyhow.

...and yes I have have my mouth washed out with soap. Maybe that why I don't like the flavor/aroma/scent/taste/essence/fragrance/emanation - whatever

I describe Mount Poo as a blend of cheap maple syrup and crushed rose petals.

As for the "subjectivity of taste" - the curious thing is that I like Mountain Dew - a LOT (primarily Diet, but...)

Now, if I sit N number of people down and blindfold them and feed them Mountain Dew: Some percentage are going to say "yum! Mountain Dew!" some are going to say "meh - Mountain Dew", and some are going to say "Ick! Mountain Dew!" - not a single one is going to say "Wow! Maple Syrup and Rose Petals!" ...

I thin this is where the co-mingling of taste and smell get involved. I personally cannot walk down the laundry detergent and fabric softener isle at the store. I find the combination of all those artificial scents so overpowering that I start to gag and cough when I do. Yet I know plenty of people who don't even smell anything unless I ask them. Then if they stop and think about it they can tell me they do smell something.

I think something similar is happening here. Some ingredient has a very strong overpowering scent, perfume-y, flower-y in nature. Many/most people don't notice its scent at all or just slightly but another group does. These are the people who find MountDo among other flavors to have that weird flowery taste.

Unfortunately I think its an ingredient added for sweetness to a number of V4L flavors. Because I sure can tell when its there. That potpourri taste or Lemon Pledge taste comes thru overpowering any other taste at all.
