Happy Friday everybody! Ready to quiz?

There are eight screenshots below, most of which should be fairly recognizable if you've seen the movies. The question is: which of the movies can you identify?

I think #2 might be a tough one this week. It's an excellent movie by one of my favorite writer/directors, and it's somewhat obscure. But, if you've seen it, the screenshot should give it away. :D

Good luck! :)

As usual, I'll post the answers Sunday morning.

Hinting and bumping...

#1: That's the movie's title character, right there behind the little girl.

#5: The job title of the woman pictured is also the movie's title, and it isn't "just about typos, tapes, staples and pencils."

#7: A few feet away from the person reading that card, there is a dead man laying on the tile floor in a pool of blood. Well, we assume he's dead...

Any more players?

    in a cave, eh?
Hints: (select text to reveal clues)

    1. #1: I dunno how you managed to stay alive, but you're one brave kid, Rebecca.
      #2: [whispers] N... Newt...
      #1: What'd you say?
#2: Newt. My name's Newt. Nobody calls me Rebecca, except my brother.

      ...
    2. There was a Joss Whedon tv series with a similar title, if that helps.
      ...
    3. Ed: You want to take a dinghy?
Frank: No, I took care of that at the press conference.

      ...
    4. ♫Coo roo coo coo coo roo coo coo♫
      ...
    5. That's a helluva way to take dictation...
      ....
    6. "Gotta love crab. In the nick of time too. I couldn't take much more of those coconuts. Coconut milk is a natural laxative. That's something Gilligan never told us."
      ...
    7. "Rise and shine, Adam. You're probably wondering where you are. I'll tell you where you might be. You might be in the room that you die in. Up until now, you've simply sat in the shadows watching others live out their lives. But what do voyeurs see when they look into the mirror? Now I see you as a strange mix of someone angry, yet apathetic. But mostly just pathetic. So are you going to watch yourself die here today, Adam, or do something about it?"
      ...
    8. "Hell is overflowing. And Satan is sending his dead to us. Why? Because you have sex out of wedlock. You kill unborn children. You have man-on-man relations. Same-sex marriage. How do you think your god will judge you? Well, friends, now we know. When there is no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth."
      ...

I was mistaken about thinking I'd seen #2. I've never even heard of it...
It’s a Todd Solondz movie, and I’m sure most people haven’t heard of it, or any of his movies, for that matter.

Solondz makes the kind of movies that you can’t recommend to people unless you have a really good handle on their taste, sensibilities, sense of humor, and propensity to be offended. They’re primarily dark comedies, very dark comedies, who’s humor frequently derives from appalling and offensive situations involving abortion, molestation, suicide, and the like.

So, yeah, suffice it to say that Todd Solondz’s movies are definitely not for everybody.

That having been said, if you’re interested in seeing one of his movies, Welcome to the Dollhouse is easily the most accessible of the bunch, and covers less-controversial subject matter than his other films.

Huh, I'd forgotten that was one of his (maybe it was his first feature film?). Certainly not as unpleasant, though worth watching, as some of his later work can be.
