Gonna go with another themed quiz this week: Vampire Movies.
forum_vampire.gif
..This is the space where I usually provide more details about the theme, but I think this one's pretty self-explanatory.

There are eight screenshots below, most of which should be fairly recognizable if you've seen the films. So, which of these movies can you identify?

Please answer with movie numbers only, not titles..

Happy Friday, folks, and good luck! :D

As usual, I'll post the answers Sunday morning-ish.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to post hints earlier, guys! I've hardly been home at all today, and I thought I'd have time to put up a quick post before heading out this morning. Unfortunately, it just didn't work out that way.

So, here are some (late) hints for you. Hope they help!

#1 is a 1979 made-for-TV adaptation of a Stephen King novel, and features David Soul in the lead role.
#2: is a fictionalized telling of the making of the 1922 German vampire movie, Nosferatu. John Malkovich stars as F.W. Murnau, Nosferatu's director.
#3: A very young Jim Carrey plays the virgin who's blood Lauren Hutton's vampire character must drink to maintain her youth.
#4: Quentin Tarantino and George Clooney play criminal brothers who stop in at this south-of-the-border strip joint to hide out from the police. They soon find out that the club is a vampire haven.
#5: The Two Coreys star in this 1987, suburban California vampire story. Kiefer Sutherland plays the leader of a gang of vampires.
#6: A horde of vampires invades an Alaskan town during the season of the midnight sun.
#7 is the movie written by Joss Whedon that, five years later, spawned his long-running TV series of the same name.
#8: In this spoof, George Hamilton's Count Dracula gets run out of Transylvania, and winds up in New York City at the height of the disco era.

    in a cave, eh?
Thanks caff. I had a bunch of clues lined up, but they don't offer anything substantially different than yours. :)

Well, #8 goes like this: Somehow, the most tanned man in Hollywood gets cast as a famous vampire and Richard Benjamin has to stop him. It doesn't go well when Benjamin tries silver bullets, hypnosis, arson and a Jewish cross (Star of David) on Count Dracula.

Never seen or heard of 3, know the rest. *Really* liked 2.
These choices kinda surprised me...No Vampire's Kiss? No Near Dark? Neither version of Noferatu? No Mr. Vampire (the first sequel was the best, as I recall.... or it might have been the second sequel. One-Eyebrow Priest!!)? Vampyros Lesbos? Lips of Blood? ...well, I guess some of those last ones are semi-obscure :) The korean film Thirst was also worth checking out... no real surprises in it, but a fine example of the genre. What was the Del Toro vampireish film? Kronos or something? It was good.

It's a good genre, but I also prefer Zombie movies (though I like slow zombies MUCH better then fast ones).

Ah well, then there are enough movies left for a second vampire-themed quiz. I assume getting screenshots from Lifeforce is a little problematic (woo, woo). :)

Sorry about that, bob. And I realize that I gave some excessively revealing clues that all but blurted out the actual titles, but it was late and I was in a rush, so I just ran with whatever helpful info I had in my head.

It's all good. :) I've looked at some of the comments following a quiz and you wonder if you can ever go too far with a clue. If there's at least a page between the clue and the original quiz post, people can at least walk through the posts and decide how far they want to go before resorting to the clues.

Anyway, like I said, I wasn't going to say anything much different from your own clues:

    1. David Soul in a two-part tv miniseries about a writer who returns to his small town only to find something really weird's going on with the townspeople.
    2. F. W. Murnau is shooting the now classic film Nosferatu, but something really weird is going on with the lead actor, Max Schreck.
    3. A vampire cougar needs the blood of a young virginal Jim Carrey.
    4. George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino are on the lam and end up in the worst strip club ever.
    5. The Corey twins (RIP Corey Haim) are up against teenage vampires.
    6. Vampires are really taking advantage of the month-long night in the northernmost city of Alaska.
    7. Hollywood wrecked the movie (Paul "Pee Wee" Reubens was still funny), but a successful tv series came out of it. The tv show had a little bit of humor, a little bit of teenage drama and a little bit of ...-kicking. Then there was this quote from the show:

"To make you a vampire they have to suck your blood. And then you have to suck their blood. It's like a whole big sucking thing. Mostly they're just gonna kill you. Why am I still talking to you?"
    8. Somehow, the most tanned man in Hollywood gets cast as a famous vampire and Richard Benjamin has to stop him. It doesn't go well when Benjamin tries silver bullets, hypnosis, arson and a Jewish cross (Star of David) on Count Dracula.

I thought Return to Salems Lot was actually a little better then the original. Larry Cohen (God told me To, It's Alive, Q, etc...) directed. Not his best work, but not bad.
I remember liking the Buffy movie when it came out. I didn't know about the studio troubles.... Lost Boys just wasn't my style... didn't care for it. I really liked how Dusk till Dawn changed genres half way through. I think more movies should try this kind of thing. Cronos was the Del Toro movie. It's pretty good.

    Thanks for the quiz caff!

This week, I started out with a list of 18 movies, including some of the ones you mentioned. Along with the movie list, I had about a dozen particular scenes in mind that I wanted screenshots for. Then I searched, and searched, and searched some more. As is always the case, I was unable to find several of the screenshots I was looking for. So, as I always do, I either found acceptable alternative scenes or I cut the movie from my list.

In the case of this week's Quiz, I found acceptable screenshots for 10 out of the 18 movies I started out with. Eight of those made it into the quiz. The leftovers will go in to the pool of unused movies/unused screenshots I have, and will likely make an appearance in a future quiz.

Also, FWIW, I definitely prefer zombie movies as well. But you all probably already knew that. ;)
