Hey guys, it's quiz time!

Another week with no quiz theme; just a batch of unrelated, mostly quite good movies.

There are eight screenshots below. Most of them should be fairly recognizable if you've seen the films. So, which of these movies can you identify?

Please answer with movie numbers only, not titles..

Happy Friday and good luck!

As usual, I'll post the answers Sunday morning-ish.

Also, I finally saw "Brazil" and "Hanna" this week! I'm slowly working my way through some of the films I've learned about here. :)
So, what are your verdicts on those two? Brazil has long been one of my all-time favorite movies. While Hanna, on the other hand, was much more of a popcorn movie, IMO. It held my interest for the most part, and was certainly entertaining, but I thought it was fairly predictable and not particularly well written.

#6 is a recent film. I saw it in the theatre in July, I think. I believe it came out on DVD on Tuesday. There's a connection between #4 and #6.
What did you think of this one, bob? I just watched it with my wife last week on PPV. I thought the movie was pretty original where it needed to be, and that it was a quality creative effort overall.

I liked Hanna - the story line aside, it was filmed very beautifully & creatively. I kept hoping they'd quit killing everyone, but that didn't happen!...I want to watch Brazil again. It was the kind of movie that moves so fast, I feel like I missed a few good parts!

A few hints:

#2: Playing the title character in this movie, Steve McQueen sports a butterfly tattoo in the center of his chest. The film is set primarily on the Devil's Island penal colony in French Guiana, where McQueen's character and Dustin Hoffman's "Louis" form a life-long friendship.

#4: This movie is the cinematic conclusion to the prematurely-cancelled sci-fi TV series by Joss Whedon, (who, by the way, is also the co-writer of this week's #6 movie).

#5: That's Alex, the movie's main character, driving with his thuggish, "ultraviolent" friends in a (presumably stolen) Durango 95 as it "...purred away real horrowshow..." into the dark countryside. They're en route to commit a fateful crime using "the old surprise visit" ploy.

#8: Johnny Depp, in the title character role of this movie, plays an acclaimed B-movie director who's earned the unofficial title of "worst director of all time". In the screenshot, he's seated next to Martin Landau who really steals the show with his remarkable, Oscar-winning portrayal of Bela Lugosi.

Hope these help! :)

    in a cave, eh?
More hints if you need 'em:

    1. A death row inmate, a gentle giant, possesses the power to restore the dead and dying in this adaptation of a Stephen King novel. Well, that's how it works in the movies; RIP Michael Clarke Duncan.
    2. Steve McQueen, The Cooler King, from The Great Escape tops that performance with a five year stint in solitary confinement in the 1930's Devil Island penal colony before jumping off a cliff into treacherous waters that will eventually carry him to Venezuela.
    3. Six-year-old Salvatore spends every free moment in the local cinema a few years after WWII and becomes the projectionist. A coming of age story that follows him as a young man when he leaves it all behind.
    4. Joss Whedon takes on the original concept for Star Trek, "Wagon Train To The Stars", in this sci-fi follow-up to his short-lived tv series.
    5. Malcolm McDowell is a sociopathic petty criminal is "rehabilitated" by an experimental cure involving heavy straps and eyelid clamps (ewwww) in a dystopian future that leaves him unable to cope with the world. Knowing the director, you wonder how long he had to endure takes of those scenes before they could wrap.
    6. Joss Whedon's take on classic horror movies like Evil Dead and Friday The 13th. Fran Kranz (Dollhouse) is a stoner with an awesome collapsible .... who steps up when a weekend getaway turns into a sacrifice to the old gods.
    7. Uma Thurman continues her quest to hunt down the remaining Deadly Vipers as revenge for being left for dead and losing her unborn child.
    8. Johnny Depp plays the talentless director of low-budget movies, "Glen or Glenda", "Plan 9 From Outer Space", etc. in this comedy-drama. Bela Lugosi in the final years of his life, out of work and addicted to 'horse' (*sigh* ECF censor), now stars in his awful sci-fi horror films. You couldn't ask for a better actor to bring life to a monster rubber octopus.
