Happy Friday, guys!

There's no theme this week - just some unrelated, but mostly good and/or fun movies.

There are eight screenshots below. Most of them should be fairly recognizable if you've seen the films. So, which of these movies can you identify?

Please answer with movie numbers only, not titles..

Good luck!

As usual, I'll post the answers Sunday morning-ish.

Maybe some hints will prompt a few replies?

#1: Don Knotts and a haunted house.

#2: Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, and aliens.

#3: William Hurt and hallucinogenic drugs in a sensory deprivation tank.

#4: John Cusack and the Mayan calendar's prediction.

#5: Failed writer/oenophile Paul Giamatti is NOT drinking any *eff-ing* Merlot!

#6: Sean Penn, Robert Duvall, and L.A. gangs in the mid-80s.

#7: The answer to life, the universe, and everything is 42.

#8: Sigourney Weaver in the jungle with gorillas.

Hope these help!

    in a cave, eh?
More hints if you need 'em:

    1. Don Knotts is a lowly typesetter who aspires to be reporter and bumbles into an assignment where he spends the night in a haunted mansion on the 20th anniversary of a murder-suicide.
    2. Jeff Goldblum is so smart he can engineer a virus to cripple a computer on an invading alien ship and Will Smith is the fighter pilot who flies him up to that ship on the big summer holiday.
    3. William Hurt devolves into an ape man, then primordial ooze in an experiment involving a sensory-deprivation tank and mushrooms.
    4. The Mayan calendar crisis basically gives you the numeric title of this epic disaster film.
    5. Paul Giamatti and Thomas Hayden Church go on a road trip through the Santa Ynez Valley wine country to enjoy some wine and the company of Virginia Madsen and Gray's Anatomy's Sandra Oh in this comedy-drama.
    6. The title is based on the Bloods (red) vs. Crips (blue) vs. Surenos (blue and gray) gang wars that LAPD cops Robert Duvall and Sean Penn, a hot-headed rookie cop, are trying to stop.
    7. "The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't." You might have to turn in your geek badge if you don't guess the title of this Douglas Adams comic sci-fi film. It's okay if you missed it, the short-lived British 1981 tv series based on the series of books was better.
    8. A "red-haired witch", Dian Fossey, studies rare mountain gorillas in the Rwandan jungle and fights the poachers who are endangering them.

#2 is a yee haw blockbuster. It's kinda fun if you don't try to overanalyze it.

    - edit- It was kind of funny watching the little Amish kid from Witness all grown up in this film. He never did grow out of his ears. Ah, wait. That was Mars Attacks. I got the two films confused for a second. I didn't like that film.

I'm a little confused... Are you saying you didn't like Mars Attacks or Independence Day?

For me, Mars Attacks is far and away the more entertaining movie. I'd definitely agree that Independence Day is a fun turn-off-your-brain-and-eat-your-popcorn flick, but with its tongue planted firmly in cheek, Mars Attacks entertained me on a couple of different levels.

Oh yeah, I also wanted to point this out for anybody who somehow didn't notice:
