Instead, this week it's a TV Show Quiz! .:D

Since TV shows are episodic by nature, I tried to make things easy-ish by choosing extremely identifiable scenes or characters for the screenshots. That way, it's unlikely that you won't be able to get a particular show just because you didn't see "that episode."

Also, at the risk of alienating the youngsters around here, (there are some youngsters here, right?), all of the shows are rather old. Really though, unless you're too young to have seen these TV oldies, this is actually quite an easy quiz, IMO.

*****

The thread will run its course for a week or so, and I'll bump it with hints and whatnot as needed. Answers will be posted when the time feels right.

There are eight screenshots below. Most of them should be fairly recognizable if you've seen the shows. So, which of these TV oldies can you identify?

Please answer with show numbers only, not titles..

Well, yeah, technically it is from a short. But, I'd think most people would know it from the TV shows made from the film shorts, especially considering most of the theatrical shorts are from the 1930 and `40s.

Shorts.... there, I said it again. Shorts. Shorts. Shorts. Now, it sounds funny and has lost its meaning. :D

I assumed the limited-length-movie might have been used as part of a TV series. The trouble is, I don't know of that TV shows/series. I've seen it only on AMC (before that channel turned to garbage) and TCM. They start feature movies on the hour or half-hour, so they use a variety of featurettes to fill in the time between the end of one movie and the start of the next. But there's never any consistency, pattern, or schedule to those, so I figure that isn't the kind of show you're referring to.

Now that I think of it, it makes sense that someone assembled the trio's movielets and packaged them as a series for broadcast. There certainly was enough of them. :)

(A whole post and I didn't have to use the s-word!)

Hints!

#1: This screenshot is from a short called "Malice in the Palace." In another of this group's skits, "Men in Black," set in a hospital, their real last names were mentioned: "Calling Doctor Howard, Doctor Fine, Doctor Howard."

#2: This TV series ran for five seasons, starting in 1970. It was based on a Neil Simon play, which was made into a movie starring Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon in 1968. Across all versions, the title remained the same.

#3:Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip...

#4: On the right is Sgt. Joe Friday, who made phrase, "Just the facts, ma'am." famous. This screenshot is from the second and most well-known installment of this TV series, which ran from 1967 through 1970. (The original series ran from 1952 - 1959.)

Hope these helped!

Hints for your head:

#5: If you've ever seen this show, the characters pictured in the screenshot should give this one away, dingbat. But, maybe it will help if I tell you that the late, great Carroll O'Connor has been (mostly) cropped out from the right side, meathead! :D

#6: Alright, since the standard for clues about this one appear to have already been set by FantWriter and bobsyeruncle, I'll just regurgitate them in a slightly different manner. Actually, additional hints probably aren't NEceSSary, but like the MC Hammer song says:, "Doo-doo-do do, do-do, do-do - U can't touch this".

#7: Over time, this show has come to be known by both its official title, and by the name of its main character. Both of those are directly related to the Sargeant in the center of the screenshot. So, either "The (that actor's name) Show" or, "(That character's name)" are correct answers for this one,

#8:Who can turn the world on with her smile? // Love is all around, no need to fake it....

Hope these helped! Answers coming Friday.
