Dark side of the moon
Greetings all,

I gave up analogs on 1/9/2014. Fifty days now. I started with eGo and V2 starter kits. So much I have learned from ECF. I learned how to spend, spend, spend :) Seriously though, I ended up with a lot of gear on my quest to keep off analogs. VTR, SVD, MVPs (They're just too cool, you can charge your phone with them!), RSST, Russian 91, Kayfun Lite + clone, DIY liquid and coil building supplies and tools.

In the past week I've learned to make micro coils, use cotton for wicks, mixed my first batch of e-juice. Tonight I'm vaping on a Neme clone with a Russian 91 with a coil I just built and also with an MVP with juice that I made. Now we're onto something! I spent quite a bit in the first 50 days, to see what worked, to make what worked. And I'm happy. Now I can start to save and given how much I smoked before my current total outlay is lessened by not spending what would have been a considerable amount on analogs.

I'm going to start saving this month, break even within another, and then save considerably as I estimate my monthly cost to be $10.00.

Now on to buy a Reo!!!!!

WOW!!! I have been more frugal, but the bug is biting me more with each thread I read on this awesome site. Impressive operation black6host...Kudos :toast:

I have been analog free since 1/22/14 and just in the past couple weeks realize the importance of DIY Juice. These B&M's are shoveling money daily ( good for them ) but I refuse the pay more than 20 cents per ml so I am starting DIY by buying the supplies this weekend. Of course I will spend countless hours in this forum making sure I am buying the right stuff. I have some ego VV 1100 coming from Fasttech ( someday soon I hope ) but I now see that I will need a MOD to get that vapor experience that is still eluding me.

What APV is the best in your opinion for producing that thick juicy vapor?

Are rebuildable atomizers hard to work with? ( making coils etc...)

Well, it's only been 50 days so I can't say I'm experienced enough to tell you what you want :) And part of the reason for my post was to say that it took me a lot of time and money to find what "I" liked. That may not be what you like.

All that being said the thick juicy flavor is an elusive beast. I'm not interested in clouds, I am in taste, though. I basically use two different setups while at home, which is where I spend most of my time. The first is my MVP 2.0 with a Kanger 2 Mini on it. Not a big juicy cloud but quite satisfying. The second thing I switch between is my Nemesis clone with a Russian 91%. Much more on the juicy vape side but I actually spend more time on the MVP. (Also, one of the advantages of having two or more sitting on your desk is that you can have different flavors you can easily switch between. Right now I have Blackberry in one, menthol in another and coffee in a third...)

As far as rebuilding attys it's not hard once you get the hang of it. Build a dud or two and then you're on your way. I learned by watching youtube vids. Kanthal wire is cheap and I use cotton and love it. Cotton is also cheap. The first coil I built didn't work. The next two worked fine and are sitting in my attys now. A lot of people here recommend RSSTs for first time builders. The RSST was designed to be used with a stainless steel mesh wick. I didn't like that idea so I just built a micro coil and threaded cotton through it down into the tank. (Not my idea, saw a post and a video of somebody doing it.) Works just fine after I noticed i had more room in the hole the cotton passed through to go to the tank. Rolled another small piece of cotton and put that in there just for extra wicking. That piece doesn't sit inside the coil but rather next to it. Call it a flavor wick. In any event it works well.

Make sure you have a way to test the resistance of your finished coils, safety is first in this game. I've got a Kick 2 in my Nemesis as added protection and a way to regulate it. And I test my battery's voltage frequently. Mechanical mods require that you know quite a bit about batteries (what the good ones are, when to recharge, etc.) and what you need to be doing to be safe. Some are simple things like making sure it doesn't fire in your pocket or purse. (I'd suggest a mod that allows you to lock the firing button.) All that info is here at ECF. I don't sub-ohm, might make one build to try it but that'll be it. And I'm super careful with my mech mod. Especially if running it with an 18350 battery without the kick.

Oh, and if you decide to get an MVP 2.0 then CompleteVape.com has them for around 40.00. Best price I've found so far without going to FastTech. I think I saw another site that had them for 36.00 but those were version 1. Make sure you get version 2.

One more thing for you. On ECF there is a post that links to an excel spreadsheet that helps when making your own juice. Here let me see if I can find it for you.....

Ok, here is the link:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...alculator-added-quantity-calculations-79.html

A great tool, if you have Excel, to help calculate how much of what you need when mixing your own juice. Extremely helpful and many thanks to the creator. There is also an android app that is similar but not as feature rich if you have an android device. I just use the spreadsheet on my Nexus 7 if I need it when out of the house.

And don't be surprised to find you end up with a box of unused gear you bought, tried and then moved on from. I should do a poll to see how many at ECF have such a box. My guess is the percentage would be extremely high

In short: No one here can tell you what you'll like. They can offer their experiences and then you're on your own! Good luck and be safe! :vapor:

Kind Regards,
Blackie

So far we (oops I) have spent ~700 and saved ~1000+. The spending should slow down now that we have decent hardware. We would spend ~100 a month on juice if we bought from b&m. DIY now except for a couple that I haven't been able to duplicate.

Next up is coils and making some wooden holders.

Holders are nice :) I don't have the tools to make one but I found one on Amazon. Nice to have sitting on my desk. Wish I could find a way to organize the 15 different cartos, clearo and tanks I have filled and sitting on my desk. Right now they are in a small cardboard box lid with paper towel lining the bottom. Don't get much leakage but a couple will leak a drop or two every now and then. Guess I just need to pull the juice from them and put them away. I do find myself switching between them from time to time though so I don't know. Guess I'll leave it as is.....

Kind Regards,
Blackie

Two vapers here we both had our last cig Jan 23 after a month of a couple a day. I have some wood bores and hole saws from door lock installs and wood deck projects. I grabbed some palette wood from work.

Keirster we both use MVP and a few egos daily. Love the MVP lasting 3 days on a charge but I charge mine every other night if I use it at work. Like the ohm meter and ability to set watts and let it handle volts since I change clearos and tanks a lot. Don't waste money on cheap stuff. Get VV at least and VW is better. IMO don't get 18350 as you might as well stick with egos.

Read my blog for juice making.
