Multi-meter Problem

I bought a multi-meter so I could learn to wrap my own coils. I decided to first try it on a regular atty. But, the numbers jump all over the place. They do kind of settle down a little, but not enough that I feel I can trust it.

What am I doing wrong? Is this normal?

Semi; ohmage (what I'm guessing you're measuring) takes a bit to settle, especially on cheaper multimeters. Shouldn't take more than a few seconds, though.

If it's still jumping around, try on another atty; perhaps there's an intermittent short in the first one you were testing.

Always measure voltage with PV power on and measure Resistance Ω with PV power off.
Make sure you're on the correct meter setting and range.
Make sure everything is connected good including meter probes.
