Hey, so I just got my MVP yesterday, and started dripping then, as well. I'm having a lot of trouble getting the Kanthal A-1 28AWG to clock in more than a ~1.2-1.3, without the coil being too long and misshapen to get my wick through, and it ends up burning my wick and giving me that weird flavour. Is it okay for me to just use a 1.3 ohm coil, or should I work on getting that higher? The guy at the vape shop said that it's best to not go below 1.2ohms, but I'm being a little paranoid.

Also, what are some recommendations for size drill bits or screw drivers to use to make my coil. Currently I'm using the mini-screwdriver the shop gave me for my rba screws, and it's just too short to hold onto and wrap efficiently. I think that may be one of my biggest problems.

I have a couple unrelated questions that maybe I could have answered.
1) Am I able to just clean my wick and dry burn it so when I want to change flavors it doesn't taste bleh?
2) What is a decent VV/VW setting for a 1.3 ohm coil, if that's even fine to use on my MVP?

I use a small eyeglasses type screwdriver that's around 2mm. 7 wraps of 28ga works out to 1.3-1.4 ohms. It's big enough to be pretty easy to wick with cotton on both, drippers and kayfuns. My mvp will fire down to 0.9 with no problem. The watts that work best depends on the juice. Start low and go up until you find the sweet spot.

What these folks has said is correct. Your MVP should do fine with that coil but I'd suggest going a little fatter on your coil. That way you can get a slight ohm bump that you are looking for. For my coils I use 30ga around a precision screwdriver (#0 phillips) that is 2.34mm (0.093 in or about 1/11") in diameter. 6 wraps gives me 1.7-1.9 ohms with a majority in the 1.8 range. This diameter is also a decent size for my Kanger EVOD coil units and wicking with cotton or rayon is a breeze.

Remember if you are dripping dual coils you will need to make each single coil double what your target resistance is. For instance you are looking for a 2.0 ohm net build you will need to make 2 4.0 ohm coils. Once you combine them in parallel the mod will read 2.0 ohms.

Now if you are using silica and dripping I'd highly suggest getting some organic cotton balls from your local pharmacy like Walgreens. It is miles above silica wicks in a dripper. Rayon is the newest fad and I personally am hooked, but for a new person organic cotton can't be beat.

Finally to answer your questions directly.
1. Dryburn, rinse, dryburn, and drop new flavor on and vape. (Don't dryburn cotton or rayon, silica only)
2. 1.3 is fine for your MVP if it fires it. I will loose the ability to regulate down to a certain point but the MVP should fire that load just fine. I know my vv V3 does. Now for the watts I'd suggest starting at 6 and working up in 0.5 increments. Do it slowly. Once you get the first taste of a dry hit then back it down 0.5 or 1 watt and you should be set. I only use the full potential of my vv V3 at 11 watts on my dual coil RDA. For my clearomizer heads and Aerotank I am around 7.5 to 8w. Sometimes I go higher to toy around but the vape isn't that much better and I run the risk of scorching my rayon/cotton wicks.

One more parting tip. Don't think that dual coil setups are the bees knees because in certain cases they are not. Even though there are two coils it takes twice the watts (in general) to make them work at their full potential. My stock Kanger Aerotank with factory dual coils underperformed even at 11 watts. I swapped the dual coil unit out for a single coil unit and it vapes like a champ now. If you have gobs of power potential at your disposal (15W+) then duals might work great, but in my experience single coils can make a super satisfying vape just as well as a dual coil setup that is properly powered.

Is it okay for me to just use a 1.3 ohm coil, or should I work on getting that higher? The guy at the vape shop said that it's best to not go below 1.2ohms, but I'm being a little paranoid.

You are perfectly safe building a 1.3 ohm coil and using it on your MPV. Since your MPV is a regulated devise, it will not let your fire a coil that is unsafe to use on it. As was mentioned above, the lowest ohm coil that your MPV will fire is 0.9ohm.

I too have an MPV and have tested this to see if this is true. When I put a 0.83 ohm coil on it, it will tell me that it is 0.8 ohms but will not fire when I engage the battery.

Also, what are some recommendations for size drill bits or screw drivers to use to make my coil. Currently I'm using the mini-screwdriver the shop gave me for my RBA screws, and it's just too short to hold onto and wrap efficiently. I think that may be one of my biggest problems.

I recommend using a set of Jewelers Precision Screwdrivers. You might even have one of these in your toolbox if anyone in your household wears glasses. I use the 1.4mm size (for wrapping micro coils for my Protanks) and the 2mm & No 0 size for my RBA/RDA's. They are easy to hold while wrapping your coil and you can "scrunch" the coils together by pushing them against the handle.

However this way of wrapping a coil do not work if you are using silica. I use organic cotton or rayon. It's inexpensive and easy to wick and re-wick.

#1 - If you are using cotton, just pull out the old cotton, dry burn your coils, inset new cotton, juice it up and you're ready to go. If you are using silica you can run the coil portion of your RBA/RDA under running water to wash out some of the old flavor, then dry burn the coils and rinse again. I have skipped the "rinsing" bit with my Kanger coils but it leaves an "ash" taste. That is why I now rinse those coils first. When I rebuild them, I re-wick with cotton. It's so much easier and it tastes better.

#2 - Set to either variable voltage or variable wattage (my personal preference is variable wattage), start low, and dial it up until you start getting a burnt taste, then dial it back. Every flavor will have it's "sweet spot". And to a large degree, it's personal preference.

If you click on my "signature line" the "Steam Engine" is a great website. It has an ohms law calculator, a coil wrapping app, as well as a couple of other great apps for vapers.
