:rickroll:How easy can this be, was what I always asked myself.
Well ladies and germs, there is no need to fear.

I am am an idiot and I just built my very first coil on the Kanger Sub tank.
Using Kanthal 28 g wire and the Japanese cotton.

Had to read-wick as I cut off too much for the coil but got it on the 2nd cut.
I used the kayfun method before putting on the chimney and think I trimmed the wick 1/2 cm too short, as I am getting a little bit of burnt taste.

Will try try this again tomorrow but WOW I am a convert and it's DIY building all the way for me...

For those feeling apprehensive about building...... Do it, be brave. It's easy AND FUN!

Preach it brother, I felt the same way. I have re-coiled my Erl clone twice today and re-wicked it three times. I enjoy the challenge of getting it where I want it. I also love the choice involved with self-determination of vape quality. You might like super slow, sub-ohm stuff and another guy gets his perfect vape out of a 2 ohm 30 gauge build on a Magma. As long as we're not smoking, we all have the right answer. :)

Ya know, I suspected I would not fully succeed so nope, no,pic. However, I'm gonna do this again tomorrow and will post something then. Forgive me but I am damn excited for what I just accomplished.
Further.... The flavor on DIY is just stunning

And it will only get better. I take Kanger PT2's with me when I go fishing, several have been sacrificed to the fishing goods along with some twists (and many cell phones).

If you haven't checked this thread out yet it's worth a peek, it has a ton of good information and put me on a great path.

"a rebuilt PT head will ALWAYS be better then a stock". --- best advice i learned in the last 8 months, and also helped me hone my coiling skills before i jumped into a RTA

same here on my first build. i wanted to take a pic but didnt because i thought the coil was a fail (turns out the wicking only was bad)

stay excited :) and have fun.

to you DadEh. I don't think you should call yourself an idiot at all. Look at what you have accomplished. Not only are you saving money but you are building your own and that carries a certain amount of pride. Well at least it does for me. I see so many wonderful things people do and the different builds, and I find it fascinating but you know what? I'm am completely content with my single coils and they are working for me and that is all that matters. Continued success to you on your building.

Morning Rat2Chat
You are a sweetheart and I truly appreciate the kind words and encouragement.
Now that my feet are (somewhat) back on earth, I'm noticing a little burnt taste to the cotton. I'm sure I trimmed it too short, didn't place the cotton into the juice channels well enough or I am simply drawing too hard for the juice to keep up.
Regardless of which (minor) issue it is, I will simply redo the wicking and see how it goes. Also think I'm going to build a new coil with 7 or 8 wraps rather than the. 6 I made last night. Uh ohhhhh! The bug has bitten and it has bitten deep heh heh heh

I know there are lots of calculators on line for coil wrapping figures, but I'm one of the ones that get more benefit out of looking at graphs and spreadsheets and comparing. Go figure. I found this one and I just seem to use it the most. Thought I'd share it in case it may help you also.

Rat2Chat this is as good as one calculator that I have saved. Thank you and I will be referring to this document. I did note that my # of wraps gives a differing ohm value to the document same applies to the calculator that I also use. I suspected a little difference but .9 to 1.3 of a difference wow.
Thanks again

Built my first build single coil on a Doge Compition well i had the wrong Rba for what I was trying to do . so I built agian after buying a magma rba now i am building dead on coils . I have found with my set up single coils work better. Soon to build a double coil with kanthal 32 or 34 ga I think to double coil on this set up my mod an MVP 20 W i need to use as little wire as possible to heat both coils well hmmmm what to try next this hobby is so much fun .

Too much cotton through the coil will give it a burnt taste too. It should be kinda snug but move freely through the coil. If that makes sense. If not someone will chime in and say what I meant.
Not sure which kayfun version your using so I hope this helps but when I cut my cotton I leave about 1/4" cotton above the chimney base. and I tuck the cotton into the base with a paperclip or really small screwdriver that helps to get the cotton into the channel.
