LED with resistor in series and atomizer are absolutely separate circuits and they work independently, in parallel. You can even connect the LED to the input circuit, and it will work.
For better understanding consider LED and its resistor as a single 2-pole device.

Now I see..... Thanks.

Ok boys and girls, we have a successfull 18650 3.7v box mod completed and vaping wonderfully. I must say from the outside she's a beauty. The red led will light up a darkened room, but other than that I gotta say I'm impressed. My wife is out w the camera as soon as she gets back I will post pics. I want to thank all you guys for your help. This would not of happened without the folks in this thread. :toast:

Ok be gentle its my first time...
Unfortunately my wife was out w the digital camera so I had to use the web cam for this pre-glue shot. Those are toothpics used for structural stability until I noob glued it. I went off the positive pole of the cell into the first side of the switch. I went off the second side of the switch twice, once straight to the firing pin, and once to the resistor. The resistor continued into the + LED. The - LED and the - cell pole tied into the - atty connection. I used Madvapes pre-wired 510 connector. The box is a Radio Shack 4"x2"x1" project box. I think I covered it all.

I own 3 box mods from Madvapes and the insides look much like mine. That is where I took the idea from. With wires everywhere it just made sense to me. Also my first time w a glue gun so I kinda went nuts with it. It vapes great and looks good from the outside. All in all I think I did a good job.

Congrats on your first mod!!! She looks great to me! You might want to epoxy in some earth magnets instead of the screws to hold the back on. I've got one mod that I like using colorful rubber bands to keep the back in place, plus it adds texture to hold onto (I have a lot of trouble with my hands... getting old's a bugger-bear).
