I've been soaking my atties in mouthwash, but the last one I did is producing very low vapor now and is a very stiff draw. Before I cleaned it, it was my best performing atty. I'm going to try this method on my passthrough. I sure hope it works.

I think mouthwash is bunk. All you need is a dry burn.

Hold the button down til the coil starts glowing red hot again. Then flush it out with water and let it dry thoroughly. Letting it dry is crucial because any moisture will kill vapor production.

I used to do the wet blow sometimes using sunlight detergent mix. It worked for a while but then attis died for good shortly afterwards. I was always careful not to heat them too long . I then quit cleaning with water and or the detergent mix, worried that this procedure was harming them.

I began to clean the attis by blowing them out with air and then cramming pieces of an old cotton tee shirt down the mouth and twirling it a bit. I got a lot of gunk out that way and they having been working very well afterwards.

I pulled out my old penstyle dead attis and gave your instructions a whirl. The oldest from besteciggy are dead and were never reliable anyway but the one from a good supplier, bestecig, is up and cooking as I write and vape, though it is not as good as my working atti.

With the success of the one Penstyle, I tried six other dead (one was nearly dead) attis; four penstyles and three 501s.

Two had died dead and one was too weak to bother using. There was no change in any of them after cleaning. I think I will pick up some vodka and see if a soak in that will work.

Interestingly, 2 of the 501s (one the weak one) the end holes seem plugged as there is no air flow through them. From the third one, air and water does come out of the bottom hole. Maybe there are two versions of the 501 attis though they were purchased within month of each other, I think.

Pleased to have one atti back up and running and will do a search for some other dead attis I have somewhere and see how it goes. I am no longer so concerned about cleaning them with water and heat. I wonder if leaving them to dry on their own would be a problem with rusting?

Cheers,

I tried ur Atty Rez. and it seemed to work but i had some questions..

After one good solid week of Vaping with a new Atty it seemed to pull a lil rough and alittle less on the Vap. Plus i had put like 4-5 diff. flavors throught it lol.

Im just starting out so im really finding what i like for juice, i bought like 13 different Flavs and some xtra carts, so of course after a week of switchin back n forth between tons of diff. flavs its getn a lil weird tastin and gummd up.

I rinsed with hot water, blew out the excess and put on my stock 510 Batt. for the dry burn. it spitted and sputtered but i couldnt seem to get it to turn any different color what so ever.

the outside got warm, but it seemed i held it for a good 10-15 and no color change on the coil.. Is this normal?

I re-rinsed and repeated the process. All excited i stuck in a cart and tried to puff away on it, but nothing whatsoever was happening. i gave the atty a couple straight drips and samething!! I figured i popd it.

I topd off the cart and finally got some Vap. and as far as i can tell it was the taste of only one flav and seemed to pull alil easier.

Anything you might be able to tell me about this would be great!! Ive been off analogs for 1week 2day!! I just want to be able to clean my attys and not buy a ....load more new

I enjoy maintenence and fiddling with stuff, so im def. no stranger to research and devolpment heehe. Any help would be great.~Capn~:)

In order for the dry burn to work, the atomizer needs to be DRY. A rinse and blow-out will not leave it dry. The nickel mesh and the wick retain enough water to keep the coil from doing anything but boiling the water.

There are various ways people dry them, I simply let mine air dry for a few days.
The good thing about the method described in this thread is that it dries the atomizer for you.

But yeah, if you're using stock 510 batteries, it could really take a long time to get the atomizer dry enough to where it starts to glow again. And until it starts to glow again, you haven't even started doing a dry burn. So yeah, more powerful batteries REALLY helps.

How often would I need to do this? I just got my eGo yesterday and I'm wondering when to clean it for the first time. Going to buy more Atty's tom I def don't want to try this until I have more because I know i'll lose some.
I generally use this method when vapor production starts to drop, or when the atomizer starts tasting a little burnt no matter which juice. Other than that, I just blow the atomizer out real good every morning to get old juice.

In all honesty I owe you my soul for this thread. I have been trying every idea I could to clean the atomizers, I tired peroxide, I tried blowing them out, vacuums, air cans, microwaves, boiling, Pure grain alcohol, distilled water. And this one worked amazingly, I now have 10 atomizers in tip top working order. That's 119.50 cents in just atomizers I was about to finally throw away that are now working like brand new.

Thank you again.

It is not a good idea to put anything metallic in a microwave. It is an even worse idea to put something metallic in a microwave with a flamable solvent such as methanol or alcohol.

Microwave ovens will spark or arc when you put metal in them, possibly damaging the part you are putting in there and the oven itself.

Put a solvent that burns readily in with metal, and you may need a new house, not just a microwave or a few attys.

Steam cleaning works really well in cleaning out the attys, and it is fast.
With the money you are saving from smoking analogs, you can treat yourself and buy an espresso machine with a high pressure frother for steaming the milk. I run my attys under my steamer for 30 seconds and they come out as good as new. I let them dry on a paper towel for a few hours. The combination of pressure and steam blows out all the gunk. I just happen to be a coffee nut and have always had an espresso machine. Cost: a reasonable machine will start at $500. There are much cheaper ones out there, but they don't have pumps for the water and steam generation.

For those of you who don't like Italian style coffee, you can buy a hand steamer. They are great for general purpose cleaning and do a great job of taking stains out of carpets. Around $50.

Here comes the usual disclaimer: do not point the steam nozzle at yourself, other people, or animals. Hold the part you are cleaning with an insulated implement like an electricians pliers; allow everything coming in contact with the steam to cool down (at least 10 minutes) before handling them. Clean all surfaces carefully since you will have some juice coming off the atty. I use a pop bottle with the top cut off and use that to collect the condensate.

I know it is a lot to ask people to use common sense, but try.

Thank you! I should have thought to try that. I've been using a Pasquini for years.

Which end of the atomizer is best pointed at the stream of steam?

If you're a nic juice mixer too, try adding a little maltol to your espresso. Gives it a nice subtle mellowing. I use 4 drops of EM/alcohol solution to a double macchiato.

Just make sure you are looking at the right angle under the mesh - there is a very small piece of coil - about 1 mm and sometimes it might be very difficult to see. As long as you start getting smoke out of it, it is working. Another thing to try is switch off all lights (you might leave the monitor on) and try again looking at it while burning.

After the dry burn, make sure to wash and do a short dry burn - just for a few seconds to vape the water left in it. Once this is done, drip on the atty a lot and wait 10-15 secs for the liquid to get absorbed - since everything is dry it takes a while for the thicker liquid to be absorbed by the mesh, reach the coil and produce nice vape.

Hope the above helps!
