ukeman: In general, cold=dead, warm with no vapor=dirty.
If you can press the button indefinitely with no sizzle and the atty body doesn't even warm up, then you've got a dead atty.
If there is any heat at all, your atty is still good and this cleaning method will bring it back to life.
frisco: This method works for LR attys too. You just have to be more careful to not pop it. The whole process should go much quicker with a LR atty.

Thanks for this thread. Early on, I was simply throwing away 401 attys when they didn't produce anymore. Since I got the eGo, I have been saving attys once their performance started degrading.
This is so easy, and I was able to do it with my stock eGo batteries. And now I'll be saving a lot not having to buy atomizers every month.

I just did this on 1 of 2 unresponsive 510 atty's and it works like new. I've still got a somewhat foul smell so I guess I'll need to do it again and don't stop the drying process before that smell goes away. Someone correct me if I am wrong...this thread's gotten so so long and I have read it all just don't remember it all. I have a chronic case of CRS!
I like the fast drying. How hot was your oven? Not brave enough to do the dry burn yet.LOL
I started vaping at the beginning of August with 4 Atomizers. I've had them in rotation since and all are still working. I was doing an Alcohol soak and rinse about once a week which does help leach the liquid and helps maintain
Recently they've started having a burnt harsh taste with all my juices that the alcohol soak hasn't got rid of so I decided to give this method a try yesterday on two of the attys. I only have 2 Riva batteries and I never reached a yellow burn with them, went thorough both batts trying but nevertheless the difference is incredible.
My juices taste fresh again without any harsh burnt taste. I don't know how often I'll use it because it does seem to be a load on the atty and I'll keep doing the alcohol soak in between to keep the dry burns to a min but it works amazingly well. I've ordered a 5v pass through with ac adapter to have before I have before I try it on the other two and future burns, it just left my Riva batteries gasping for breath.

Nomoreash, my oldest 510 atty is from february, it's still rocking as new, and it lasted me that long because of this method, I clean my attys every week, two weeks most using this method.
Don't be afraid it is not a load to the atty, the only thing, the most important point of this method is to watch the coil as you do the dry burns so you don't pop the resistance but the dry burns do not affect the coil over time.

Thanks, good to know. I was wondering about getting them to orange during cleaning might start to break down the coil over time. Heck as far as I know my coils have never seen orange with the Riva batts, I tried like heck to get them there yesterday, the method worked anyway although I'm sure not as well as if I had the power to get them there without the batt auto cutting off and finally loosing it's charge.
I'm very careful about watching it during the burn and when I receive my pass through I should have no problem getting them to the orange stage.

Are you sure it doesn't affect the coil over time?
Some of the people who argue against doing dry burns say that it weakens the coil and therefore shortens the life.
I think that if it shortens the life at all, it is nothing compared to how long they last if you don't do dry burns.
I know I have been using the same 510 atomizer exclusively for almost seven months now, with no end in sight.
If doing the dry burns is shortening the life of my atomizer, I'll take it and be glad for it.
But I would love to be able to refute these people with any facts you can provide.
Well, I think that a seven months old atomizer is enough fact to prove anybody that dry burns doesn't weaken the coil at all. Before trying this method my attys lasted a lot less, so I think that the crap that builds without dry burns is more harmful, and this old atty performs as good as the newer ones. Great method!!! Should be standard procedure in my opinion
I have 2 attys that I have been using this method on for over a month. (I keep 2 flavors going 2 batts while 2 batts charge), about a week ago one of them refuse to glow during the dry burn. It will still vape ok but no matter how much heat it builds up while dry burning even on my PT, I get zero glow an the same atty that I had been for 4 weeks+.

I heard that some regular batteries are not strong enough for the job, highping even suggests to make it with a higher voltage, maybe thats why, do you have any mods or something else to try it?
A rinse/wash is good enough to clean the metal mesh and the fibers, but I think there is no better way to get rid of the residue in the coil than a good dry burn
