Ok Highping- I LOVE your cart mod- I've used that almost since day 1 of vaping- thank Gawd I found it because I was getting really frustrated with topping off and burnt tastes. This, though.....I'm too afraid to try just yet maybe? What would be your 2nd reccommendation of cleaning?? I've been cleaning with 91% iso, but lately I'm vaping everything with caramel cream, so I'm finding that I need to clean my atomizers about every night. I just bought some Crest ProHealth- Is this a better cleaning method? Thank you

I tried this in an atty that was a day old because I had a mix of tastes in it accidentally and decided I would wash it out and use your method to dry, and while I was at it to clean up any light crud that might be there since I had been vaping a heavy VG Caramel fluid (I figured whiel I was at it, why not, follow your steps all the way through). I think I mesed up the atty (won't work now). I got confused a little.

Here's what I did. I held it under very hot tap water and throughly rinsed and blew it out. I attached it to my stock battery and I couldn't see anything but steam/smoke and heard lots of sizzle. Since I couldn't see the coil for the smoke, I worried and let off the power button and just decided to hit the button for 3-4 seonds at a time until the smoke cleared and sizzle stopped. I think this is where I fried it. I know your intention wass to dry it in passes and to use the orange glow as a guide as to when to let off the power button during those drying cycles. It appears I held it in too long between cycles (I just couldn't see the coil for all the smoke from the moisture burning off).

"7. Once you have it to this point, press and release the button at a rate that just holds the orange glow (kind of a manual 'pulse width modulate'). Keep this glow going for 20-30 seconds, being very careful to maintain the glow at low orange (not bright red/white) or you'll pop it."

Seems like steps 4-6 are done to dry and step 7 is to burn off any crud. I think the problem was the steam off the coil blinded me so I held the button too long in steps 4-6. I think the idea here is to heat things up just until you get an orange glow and that signals you to let off the power button and you recommend to do this a good 5-10 times to make sure its all dry. But if it is smoking you just can't see the glow happening :( and you are flying by the seat of your pants. It appears I held it down too long during the drying cycles.

On Number seven you said to keep a glow going for 20-30 seconds? You can do this by pulsing - short half second pushes? I am a very novice atty user (the last three days is first time I have been using them, those and cartos on my new eGo, before this I had Green Smoke and used their cartos).

Thanks for clarifyign things for me in advance. I see this method has been wildly successul and I'll get the hang of it.

gotlogos: If you can't "see through the smoke", it's not dry yet. Try blowing gently into the atty as you push the button. This will usually dry it much faster and also allow you to see the coil glow. The coil typically won't glow until it's pretty close to dry though.

Are you sure you 'fried' it? If it is cold, it's dead. If it's warm, but just not hitting, it's still wet/dirty.

re: 'can't see through the smoke'
I said that because I wanted you to understand that I was watching for the orange glow you mentioned to watch for as an indicator to let off the power button. Not being able to see I wasn't afforded that indicator (I guess blowing as I am doing it might blow it away enough to see it).

But could you clarify again the dry burn to clean the crud in step 7? It very may well have been that step that killed the atty. When you say to keep a constant glowing orange for 20-30 seconds it seems you are saying to do this by pulsing the power button but don't lay on it. When I tried pulsing the power button I didn't get any glow until I help down on the button more than your prescribed method of short half second or so bursts.

I gave this a shot since I would love to find an alternative to soaking in rubbing alky. Took one of my 510 attys and aafter the rinsing steps put it on my USB passthrough; I held that button long enough to feel the heat from a few inches away, but I never saw any "orange". Smelled plenty of burnt fragrance but it got to the point where I thought "Is this doing anything at all?!" before I finally gave up.

Do not all attys glow orange or am I missing something?

It depends on what kind of battery you are using.

I use an 18650 battery at 3.7 volts and I don't have to pulse at all.
I can sit on the button as long as I want and the coil will never get above a nice orange glow.

I think it has to do with the device you are using, for example, I can get my attys to glow very fast with my 801 battery but with my 10440 mod it takes a little longer.

Try to be in a dark place when you do it, it is easier to see the glowing coil. Sometimes the wick under the bridge is big enough to block the coil so you have to try to look under the wick at an angle, but if you are in a dark place or even surrownding the atty with your hand you will see orange reflected on the sides of the barrel.
