I've found that drying the Atty's fully works better before firing them. Atty's don't like water and when firing them while still wet to many short out and you kill them so instead of having a good freshly cleaned Atty you kill it if you don't let em dry.!!!

Been dry burning for almost 9 months now and never killed an atty with this process, I don't see how you could short out an atty with water.

This also works with the Ego-T (tank) attys. EXCEPT since I cant see the coil but after using your method so many times.. I rinse with hot water... blow out any excess... and in short bursts on button not to exceed 1 or 2 secs... dry it by EAR... when it stops the hiss sizzle sound I am off of it.. I then repeat wash and dry... simple... fast...effective.... works EVERY time... :p

i don't think this works well with 510LR's ... they always seem to "pop" no matter how careful you are.

I have a 6 month old 510LR (the only one that I have), it gets dry burned every week or two with no popping so far. I think you might be doing sth wrong. What are you using to do your dry burns?

This is the only method I use, and I have attys that are 4-5 months old and still going strong. One in particular, I have vaped well over 300ml through and it hits like the day (after) I got it.

1. Blow out any excess juice.
2. Rinse with hot water and blow out thoroughly. (no need to dry over night, or anything. They have a built in dryer ;))
3. Connect to battery...preferably something higher voltage than stock. I use my variable voltage power supply that's connected to a PS passthrough and set it to about 5.2V for a 510 (6.5ish for an 801), but if all you have is stock, then that will work too.
4. Push button until you see orange hot...carefully...not super bright (white hot).
5. Let off button and blow down the barrel (from a distance, not with your mouth actually on it), this kind of flash cools it and also gets some of the moist air out to speed the drying process.
6. Repeat (steps 4 and 5) 5-10 times... you will see that gradually (once you've got it dry) the glow will occur much quicker.
7. Once you have it to this point, press and release the button at a rate that just holds the orange glow (kind of a manual 'pulse width modulate'). Keep this glow going for 20-30 seconds, being very careful to maintain the glow at low orange (not bright red/white) or you'll pop it.
8. Once you have done that, repeat steps 2-7 one more time.

It worked. You Sir, gave me new hope for my eGo-T.

Thanks Highping for this method.

I've been using it for about a week now with good results. I pretty much vape constantly and my atomisers were losing performance after only a day or two.

I use a Screwdriver MK2 with standard Mini/901 atomisers.

One simple tip, for what it's worth, that may help with the drying process. Once I've soaked in hot water and blown through the atty, I attach it to the SD and then 'flick' out as much water as possible into the palm of my hand. When I can no longer feel water droplets hitting my palm, I start the dry burn. Same with the final drying step.

I find the coil glows pretty much instantly, if not, then I flick out some more.

I dont really understand the whole issue with cleaning, maybe its because I've only stuck with the same atties (LR901) and cartos (CE-2 XL) but I seem to have it easy with cleaning? Of course it is thanks to guys like you lot putting your method online!

I use a turkey baster, and really hot water (under boiling temp though) - and I 'flick' them with my wrist as well as blowing out - I can get 99% of the water out this way then a quick burn then repeat etc, and I ALWAYS take my atty off and let it stand up overnight so it doesnt get all grimey.
Through my little process I keep all my equipment clean and don't seem to have any problems, I clean an atty as soon as I notice a bad taste / sore throat / weird smell and most of the time its good as new afterwards.

Personally (my assumption following here) I think a lot of it is down to juice flavors, I use 80% VG minimum and clean flavours (usually strawberry) - my guess is that strong/dark flavours cause more problems with sticky gunk etc. Either way I don't have that problem and I don't use any dark/strong flavours so I can't say.

Anyway, my point was, thank you to everyone who takes the time to post their cleaning methods because it means peeps like me can 'tosh' together a process from all your methods and get it right first time.

Love to all!

Thanks highping! I am new to vaping and appreciate the info very much. I only own 4 attys and two of them were already down for the count after only about a month of use. These two bad attys were the first two I purchased and started getting weak after just about a week of vaping Rath's 100% VG juices. Since then I have been using the two newer attys and wondering if I could get the other two to work again. I even tried boiling them as well as an overnight iso soak. Still no dice.

Anyhow after reading this thread I decided to give your method a shot. Now I don't have 5v or 6v capabilities yet so I had to use my in-line battery type PT. With this battery I could not achieve the "orange hot" status so it took a while longer but it worked. I just kept turning the battery on and off until I could barely hear any more sizzling. You can really smell this crap burning off. I then repeated steps 2-7 one more time, dried it again with the battery, primed it up and what do you know. It works great in fact I'm using it right now.

Since it took me about 20 mins to do this I am going to wait and clean my other dead atty when my 5v PT arrives next week. This way I will not kill my poor flimsy little battery PT. I'm even more excited to get the 5v now. Thanks again.

I tried doing it this way with my joy510 stock battery, I blew the atty( I see the orange now LOL, yeah, with out the vapor! yikes!). I found better luck cleaning my other atty simply with a paper towel folded into corners, it really did the trick for me and I am back to vaping like new. I guess to be safe if I need a deeper clean I am going with the oven method. But thank you for the idea!

I soaked mine in vodka and water last night, let them dry. And used one this morning. Now it tastes like a musty vodka taste. Did i mess up?! How can i get that nasty taste to go away?!

I cleaned away several strong flavors from my atties with the OP's method, a good dry burn takes away flavors and gunked .....

...I blew the atty( I see the orange now LOL, yeah, with out the vapor! yikes!)....

I'm confused. If you are seeing orange, then you did not 'blow' your atty...you just cleaned it :)
When you are done with this process there should be no vapor. Again, that just means it is clean and dry.

After you have done this method (and have orange glow and zero vapor), you have to put 3...4...maybe even 5 drops into your atty and let it sit for a couple minutes to soak into the mesh. Then you should get plenty of vapor.

I saw the orange glow on ONE atty, but not the other 2 i tried it with. :( So i am going to start from step 1 with them and see if i can get them to work right.
