I made this mod with parts from 2.5" laptop hard drives.
I used Scubabatdan touch switch setup here.

I used a 3/4" rubber washer trimmed down a bit to fit into the tube.
I used JB weld to attach the end cap to the washer.

I drilled a hole in the washer big enough for the USB port.
I also drilled four vent holes in the washer to match the end cap.

I used JB weld to epoxy 33 platter spacers together to create the tube.
The end caps are the hard drive spindle caps.
The battery is an 18650 2200mAh from a laptop battery back and protected via a protection circuit like this one.
The green led is from an HP jetdirect network jack.

Great job! I've always wanted to use a couple of spindle caps from 3.5" drives for tops and bottoms, but would have to use a 14500 for the space inside the way I envisioned. And spindle spacers are great playthings too, if you throw one at the floor right it rings very nicely :)

First I chose the mini USB port because of its small size and not for the ability to use USB. I use this smart charger to charge my battery. At 0.5A it does take a while to charge so I let it charge overnight but since the battery usually lasts me a month I don't mind.

Here's a picture to sort-of visualize the setup.

Most of the above image is from USB - Universal Serial Bus Connector Pinout - AllPinouts.

Any idea what kind of metal they use in the disks?

Also, what are the ID and OD?

I believe most of the ones I used are stainless steal, and the top ones are possibly titanium. The ID if I remember correctly is 23mm, but the OD very from one drive model to the next. I had access to many of the same model drives.

Damn! A month? :) That's breaktruisious.

I have to state I'm a light smoker, so other people's mileage maybe different. :vapor:

I also made a manual button mod that charges through the 510 connection like the egos. No extra wiring like the USB port but I have to make sure the mod is in on mode to charge.

Hmm, that must mean that you lock the button into a closed position to charge it, right? I've thought about doing that as I have a couple dead riva batts.
