I have a cat and his sense of smell is rather sensitive compared to mine. When I used to smoke analogs he would never come to sit close to me and if by mistake he smelled cigarette smoke he would start running away. Now with vaping not only is he not bothered to sit on my lap while vaping but even if he comes across my exhaled vape he doesn't seem to bother. And it makes me wonder...

With some juices I vape, my cat comes take a sniff. He doesn't seem to like it particularly, he's just curious, but he definitely doesn't mind.

Funnily enough, the juices that intrigue him don't smell of anything to us, while the ones that seem to fill the room with a strong scent leave him totally indifferent. Goes to show how different cats' sense of smell is.

About a year ago someone posted a very sad story about a beloved Cat that saved his life ( long story, it did save him ) but he was devastated when the cat got ill and was diagnosed with a illness caused by all the cigarette smoke that settles on everything , you know, that yellow grunge on the walls, paintings etc. It accumulates on pets fur as well.

For cats is very dangerous as we all know how much cats groom themselves. Aside from the fact that pets, especially cats and birds , their respiratory system is much more sensitive than humans.

He was devastated, because his companion saved his life and he could do nothing but feel guilt and anguish as he saw the poor little thing die. He did not know he could be harming his beloved pal, but we live and learn.....

Oh my! This so interesting to me. My older cat, who's been here since before I started vaping would kind of avoid cig smoke. When I started vaping he would still sit on me and seemed to sniff it and watch the vapor. I just thought I was some how projecting some approval onto him because he was happy he wasn't getting second hand smoke anymore.

But then I rescued a new kitty, too. This guy does NOT like my vaping at all. He makes that scrunched up face and moves away from it. I wonder if anyone else's pets have seemed to be "happy" they quit cigarettes and switched to vaping.

I've posted this a few times before but my dwarf cat, Batcat. would sit on my lap and leave immediately when I lit a cigarette. Now with vaping, she looks at the vapor, has to sniff to be sure it's NOT smoke, then falls asleep on my lap for hours.

Sorry, tried to put an image of Batcat here but can't figure out how to do it!

Cats are sometimes attracted to mint. There is a plant called catmint that many cats are attracted to, and I guess some mints are similar enough to attract them too. Once I made some peppermint creams and left them out to dry on a sheet covered in icing sugar - when I wasn't looking my cat rolled over and over in them! But like us, all cats have different preferences anyway.

My cat seems a little nervous of the vapour, which seems to be thicker than smoke and slower to dissipate. She will give it a good sniff. Some she ignores, and others she backs away from as if they are a solid object. She doesn't seem to actively enjoy any of them. She's a very angsty cat at the best of times, but she likes that I go outside less now, as she enjoys my company.

I love all your cat stories. My cat wouldn't come near me when I smoked. But doesn't seem to mind the vapor. I once had a cat that lived until he was 13 years old. But then he got sick. The vet couldn't figure out what was wrong with him even though he did a LOT of tests. We finally had to put him down and it broke our hearts. I will always blame myself because I am convinced that somehow after all those years of being subjected to my cigarette smoke it affected him somehow. But my current cat is happy and healthy and I haven't smoked around her so much so maybe I can save her from a similar fate.

Just a note to all.You shouldn't nlow vapor to their face. There is no proof that it's bad for them but that definitely doesn't mean it's good for them.Several animals will eat things that are harmful to them. The fact they are curious or seem to like vapor doesn't mean you should blow to their face no matter how funny or sweet that may seem to you
