I had my second visit to my Dr. since I started vaping. His initial reaction was very good, but now that I have completely given up analogs he is delighted. I took my SVD and explained how it worked, the Ejuice, the nic strengths and how easy it was for me to quit. I also took a couple of tip caps that were given to me at my local B & M. put one on and offered him a vape. (i didn't tell him I was vaping cherry and peach mixed) He took a vape and kind of choked a little. then took another vape and said, wow I love the flavor, I was expecting something like tobacco flavor. We talked for a for a while about vaping and the forum, he promised to check us out.

I saw my doctor just last week. He stated that he couldn't recommend e cigs as a device to quit smoking.

I explained to him that he didn't need to recommend them, all he needs to tell his smoking patients is that he has patients that have quit smoking using the e cigs.

I'm hoping he does some research on the products.

Just walked in the door from a doctors appointment. Really! Told him I had quit smoking. He said great! As he had prescribed Chantix for me in the past and I failed to quit, he asked, What did you do? I said I "cheated" and am using e-cigs. He said "That's great, what ever keeps you from smoking".

Well ALL RIGHT! my doc gets it.

I told him my wife and I did a lot of reading (ECF!) and chose a higher quality kit than a gas station throwaway rig and it worked for us. He said that he was hesitant to recommend ecigs due to the made in china aspect and you don't know what is in them.

I mentioned that my wife and I had done quite a bit of research and bought our supplies from reputable US vendors but agreed that it would be pretty easy to put questionable juice out there.

He also expressed concern about the cool factor. Meaning youth seem to be drawn to vaping.

Really glad he didn't just lump ecigs into the "smoking section".

He even noted my chart as "Ceased Smoking with Electronic Cig. Congratulations!"

I thought that was pretty dang cool.

There is hope that medical professionals will see the good in vaping as opposed to just the negative.

We have a long way to go regarding "the children" however.

My doctor tends to be a bit of a killjoy, and on the first visit after having switched from cigarettes to vaping, he muttered, "Yeah, I want you to quit that too." A year later, his remark was, "Well, it's got to be better than cigarettes!" Well...that's SOME improvement :)

Seriously, anybody who uses common sense AND is willing to be honest, must admit--after even very, very light research--that vaping is far less harmful than smoking. I don't claim "safe" or "harmless"...but LESS HARMFUL. That has to count for a lot. Unfortunately, pre-existing biases against smoking AND smokers gets in the way of common sense AND honesty for a lot of people.

My dentist's reaction was, "well, it's better than smoking." He wouldn't go further than that, but I can understand.

If a medical professional makes a recommendation, there's liability to consider. If we find out five years from now that vaping causes chronic hot dog fingers of kleptopantherism, it could hurt his reputation. Since he's not seeing endorsements in the clinical literature, he's going to tread lightly.

It'll take time, but it's nice to see them starting to come around.

Funny thing is, my chiropractor is a big fan. He doesn't prescribe medicine, so he doesn't have the same exposure to liability, and he was actually glad to hear I was doing it. Turns out he knows several people who've quit cigarettes this way.
