I have the same unit I believe, version 1 (or 2 depending on where you look). Version 2 (or 3) does have a bottom vent and the bottom screws off as well.

I'm by no means an expert, and I don't recall where, but I did read that the bottom is designed to blow out in a battery venting event. It's also mentioned in another thread here. I can neither confirm nor deny that it does, so take that for what it's worth. As far as protected batteries go can you use one of the 2 Cents For Safety fuses?

Forgot to mention that AW 18650 IMR batteries will work in this unit. I use mine as a charger in a pinch.

Well I wish someone would confirm that it is not going to be dangerous. o_O

I read that it is too short to take the protected batteries

The bottom of mine doesn't have a vent...

I really love this mod out of all the mods I have looked at this one just is perfect except the venting and unprotected battery. I don't want to buy the protected one just to see if it fits :(

Here's another thread where battery safety and this mod is discussed. They also mention the Vape-Safe, which I think is like a 2 Cents For Safety fuse. As I said, I use AW IMR 18650's in mine, but Panasonic CGR18650CH 18650's are also mentioned in that thread. I don't have a Vape-Safe or a 2 Cents For Safety fuse but aren't those essentially the same type of protection that are used on protected batteries (wrapped in the battery casing itself)? I do have a protected Panasonic CGR18650CH 18650 battery and I know that doesn't fit in the mod, but maybe a 18490 battery with one of the above mentioned fuses would?
