My first attempt at Mod making

I was getting fed up with just buying mods and not getting what I really wanted. So taking inspiration from Mark Todds' review of the open source VV box mod Evercool from 13 March 2013 I decided to make my own. It's a little on the large size but it works a treat. I'm vaping an Expromizer @ 1.2 Ohms at 4.2V and the batteries (two SonyVTC5s in series) have still got plenty of voltage left before needing a recharge. The painting is not the best quality but I can live with it.
I built the mod using a Texas Instruments PTR08100WVD regulator chip. The output ranges from just under 3V to just over 5.5V.

I know a lot of people discount voltage drops but as this is an electronic device rather than a mech mod, I think a voltage drop of only 0.03V with a 1.2Ohm load (as can be seen in the photos) is quite good.

I was originally going to use a standard 510 connector from Stealthvape. I bought one and then changed my mind when Rob announced the OCD 510 connector. I bought that too and changed my mind again when I saw the size. I did try it in the box but for me the overhang of the atty on the connector was too much, my OCD kicked in. I finally went with FatDaddys 510 which has an outside dia. of 22mm (sorry Rob).

The LED on the top near the 510 is not just a power indicator. It normally glows dimly only brightening when the battery voltage drops to 6V, indicating it is time to recharge them and fit another set.

I made this just for me and I'm not thinking of making them for sale.

I'd like to thank Mamu, Bapgood and Breaktru for providing the inspiration and information.

My next project is going to be an SX350 mod, which is going to be so much easier.
