Well my first e-cig arrived today. It's a volt. I had my last real cig last monday the 9th. Been wearing a patch since. But still craving smoking like something BAD. I felt nauseous this morning when I put on the patch so I took it off. Then when I got the e-cig i tried it out on my lunch break. It's a white volt automatic battery, and I got a "smooth" sampler pack to try out. I'm on the fence really. This is not anything like smoking. besides the inhaling and exhaling part of it. But it feels totally different to me. Like, I feel it more in my throat than anything. Almost like someone hit me in the throat. But i didn't get that with smoking cigs... I wonder if it's the nicotine in these? I remember trying nicotine gum and it felt similar. like my throat felt all weird. hard to describe.

As for these flavors... BLAH blah yuck. Well, I shouldn't say that 100%, but out of the 3 i've tried, I think one is okay. and that is the RY4. Not sure what I was expecting, but they all have a weird taste to me. I told myself I wasn't going to try any of those fancy flavors but now i'm interested in the "cappucino" or maybe some other coffee flavor.

Well I will give it some more time, I think. I don't smoke it often. I take a few puffs here and there, then put it down because of that throat feeling. I can't take too much of it. It IS better than smoking cigs though. So I just have to keep telling myself that. But as of now, I am not totally sold, and still craving cigarettes.

thanks all!

Welcome!

The sensation you're describing is called "throat hit", as you said. It's craved by a lot of people. I'm with you in that I can do without it. Are you inhaling like a cig? You should inhale instead slower and less hard, like a soft drag for two or three seconds instead of a quick puff.

What nicotine level are you using? You may need to lower it, as nicotine is a large part of throat hit. You'll also possibly want to look for juices with less PG and more VG percentages -- people here can probably point you that way.

My wife had terrible throat hit issues the first few hours she used her Ego, but between getting used to it and finding juices that worked for her, it went away. Good luck!

It takes time, patience, and experimentation to find what will work for your personal needs . . . but it will work!!!!!!!

Congratulations for taking that first big leap, now it's time for baby steps. To reduce that throat feel without reducing the nic level, you might consider adding VG to the liquid. Some people prefer more PG than VG, some the other way around. The nic, pg/vg ratio, and flavor is where each has to just stick with it and find what works.

Best of luck!!! and Keep reading and asking questions . . . you can do it!

Good luck dcquitter! I have not tried the Volt, but there are so many e-cigs and juices out there, I feel confident that you will find something that works for you. Don't give up!

This forum is a great place to do some research. Just about everything out there has been reviewed here.

My husband had the same complaint about our starter kit. It was OK, but was not like smoking.

The only thing he has stuck to was a mod that I got for him and, of all things, french toast juice. Strange but it's working.
I'm sure you will find something too.

Welcome to the forum!

I have to agree it's not like smoking to me either.... But i noticed that if you buy a tobacco juice and some fruity juices and switch back and forth and stay away from analogs the tobaccos start to taste sorta like tobacco atleast to me anyway .... Also if I'm not mistaken the volt is an analog style ecig?? I've used 3 different types of analog style ecigs and I don't like them ever since I got my KGO I have really enjoyed the vaping experience good luck with your non smoking just stick to it I think you will find it a great alternative!!

Welcome dc ... Dang not sure what to tell you.....I have never tried a volt but your experience is not uncommon... I started with green smoke and found that they were just unpredictable as far as flavour and battery life. My first real e-cigarette was an Ego-T ...... And wow what a difference. I still use the Ego batteries because they last me a long time but have moved on to using low resistance cartomizers and tanks. I have struggled to find the perfect juice but I seem to be making better choices as far as flavour and nicotine strength....sort of learn what works for you. BUT after using the Ego stuff I never found myself wanting another analog cigarette... Good luck.....I am sure others will chime in and give more alternatives than I have managed

Welcome to ECF.
The bold above is my favorite part. lol. OK... so you're aware now that e-cigs are not 100% the same as smoking. OK. You may not be aware that there's a lot of juices out there and they often taste a lot better (IMO) than pre-filled cartos if that's what you are using. Even the volt cartos. TH can be customized too.

There's a fiddle-factor with e-cigs. It's a good idea to try a few combinations of atties/cartos. Also, some adjustment and learning curve. I'm sorry to say it's not as easy to use as cigs (yet). But many of us have quit tobacco completely using them. They may work for you, they may not. I think they can.

Please spend some time reading this site. Check out the posts and the info pages. There's a ton of information here. You'll probably get info-overload. Your health is worth the trouble. We all sure hope that e-cigs are great harm-reducers and help a lot of people quit tobacco. It's all fairly new yet.

As to the mg... you'll have to experiment. It's different for everyone. No hard and fast rule. We had one user that smoked unfiltered cigs, but couldn't vape more the 12 mg. Others vape 36 mg (quite high, and not recommended to start with IMO). I smoked full-flavored and use 24 mg. It varies.

I luv the Volt .. good choice, its a very reliable product. I also have an Ego but I only use it for trying out new juices (drip.) I'd say try some juice from copper creek. backwoods brew or other juice companies. The Volt has good menthols - ice got me off newports and other cheaper brands of ciggys. You can try the big mods but I personally don't care for them - reminds me of something a sumo wrestler would carry around LOL

I understand your experience with vaping. There are many who start to vape and never look back. I was not one of them. Vaping is not like smoking. There were times I was ready to give up on vaping. It took finding the right juice and the right equipment - this is actually easier after you get past the overwhelming choices and gain some knowledge. This is a good place for knowledge. Opinions vary, but it is up to you to determine what you like. Most e-liquid suppliers provide smaller sampler bottles. When you find one you like - load up! Good luck in your journey and stick with it.

Welcome to the forum!

I get what you are saying about throat hit. I didn't have it with cigarettes either and it took me by suprise when i switched to vaping. I lowered my nic level and now i enjoy it actually. I use 18mg... started with 24mg. It takes time to get used to vaping and it's a learning process. If you stick with it, you'll find what you like since there are so many options.

Good luck and vape on! :vapor:

First off, Congratulations! Now one thing you need to learn is that you don't really inhale an e-cig like you do a ciggy. The best way is to suck it into your mouth and then inhale. This lessen the TH(throathit) and makes it a little smoother. I have the Volt as well as an E-Power Mod. Love both of them. You will never really find a tobacco juice that taste like the real thing and you really don't want to. As your lungs clear out you will find that the real deal taste's and smells like garbage.
I am rather partial to coffee vapes, especially Irish Creme and coffee! You just need to try different ones till you find what you like.Welcome to ECF and keep coming back with your questions. We are here to help!

Also, just to mention, you can find VG (glycerin) at any pharmacy or Wal-Mart, if you do decide you want to cut your liquids.

As far as juices to try that haven't been already mentioned, I'd highly recommend PinkSpotVapors.com . So far we've gotten two sampler 6-packs and haven't been disappointed by any of them.

Hi all

thanks for all the tips. I woke up this morning an tried the e-cig with my coffee, as that was one of the things i miss the most, smoking with coffee first thing in the AM!

I inhaled much slower and the throat hit was much less noticiable. So thanks for that tip!

I think I am going to order some more cartomizers from smokeless image today. Question: will other cartomizers from other websites work on the volt e-cig ?

Anyway, I feel a little angry today. maybe not enough nic? I feel like I am ready to get up and walk out of my job. but then again, I feel like that most days, smoking or not! haha. maybe time for a few puffs on the ecig. I definitely do not get the same "calming" effect I had from real cigs....

Welcome aboard and don't give up! I personally found from the first hit of my ecig that it was exactly like smoking so it worked for me. Really, you just have to find what feels the most like your analog habit for it to work for you. Yeah, some of the flavors are just plain YUK... I've totally moved away from the tobacco flavors. I think you might enjoy the coffees, capuccinos, and chocolate.. boy, some of them are just SO YUMMY! Once you find a couple that you like, you'll be hooked! I recommend The Vapor Room,, I've tried 4 or 5 different vendors for liquids and I really love the Vapor Room.. just nice smooth flavors. Please keep trying... it really does work when you find what's right for you!!

LOL I understand where you're coming from!!! Welcome to detox . . . it will pass and then you can get back to just the regular kind of "ready to get up and walk out of my job."
