My first igo-l coil

Not exactly my first but first coil I'm vaping with on the igo-l

I've had this IGO-L for about 4 months. Within a week I got wire and silica wick.

I built a nice coil for a beginner but I thought the wick tasted nasty. It almost gave me a sore throat.

I put everything aside and been busy with work or diy juice.

I drip a ry4d juice I mix in a 510 atty. Ive been reading flavor is so much better with a rda.

Yesterday I made time to make another coil. It turned out to be 1.6ohm which I'm happy about. But this time I used a piece of organic cotton ball. WOW! sorry I waited so long to try again. Great flavor and lots of clouds. :)

Fiddling with tiny parts is prob why I procrastinated. First time it was frustrating. Now that I have a formula figure out that works for me. Its a keeper!

The one thing that was a big help is I have a magnifier light clamped to a table in my office. For my old lady eyes that is a must have tool.

Any one hesitant to try it just takes a little time and patience plus good eyes.

One question. I'm using kanthal wire. I forget what size without looking. How long should I expect a coil to last if used often each day?

The first pic is first coil I made. Second pic is what I'm vaping now.

Those are some good-lookin' coils, Claire! Congratulations on a job well done!

As for how long it will last, it's hard to say. They should last a heck of a long time.

I DIY my juices, and consider myself a chain vaper (>5ml a day) so I'll relate the following:

My darkest juice gunks up in about a day, which is why I rarely use that one.
My medium colored juice will gunk up in about 1 to 2 weeks.
My colorless juices will last seemingly forever, LOL.

The good news is, all you have to do is slide out the cotton, rinse dry burn the coil and rinse again, and slide new cotton in.
The coils last a helluva long time. Not sure exactly how much, but my current coil is over a month old.
I usually re-coil once in a while even if it doesn't need it. For practice, I guess.

That kanthal is way thicker than the 32g nichrome I use for my RDAs, so they should last even longer than mine!

On the second pic it looks like you're using a bit too much cotton. That is probably why it is starting to burn a little in the middle -- too much cotton chokes things up and the juice can't wick properly.

When you slide the dry cotton through you should be able to pull it back and forth with just a tiny bit of resistance. Cotton expands quite a lot when wet, so you don't need as much as you think.

Wanted to follow up on this. I moved the little bit of cotton away from the top of coil that was between the screws. It gave a harsh hit that I do not like. The warmer less harsh is what I like & by accident I guess I found out how to achieve that by placing the little piece over the coil.

However when I replace the cotton - I'll try to make it so it can slide thru coil easier than it does now.

Thank you!

The move might have separated the cotton from the coil. You want full contact between the wick and coil at all times. If any part of the coil is not touching cotton it will glow and give you an awful harsh hit.

You also could have moved the coil itself away from the air hole, or have it too high up. I've had best results when the coil is near the air hole and lined up directly in front of it. Some people prefer the coil to be slightly higher than the air hole so the incoming air hits the bottom of the coil. I find it gives me a harsh hit that way. I like it smack drab in the middle; up front and center!
