Hello everyone!

A few weeks back I bought a cheap vape system by NLA. Cost about $20 and performed moderately well. The main drawbacks I found were poor battery life, cartridge life and vapor production. Pretty much everything about them embodies "cheap".

After some research I decided on the smok Tech Dual coil Mega 510 Cartomizers LR 1.5 Ohm. I ordered a couple 1000mAh Joye eGo-T eGo tank batteries to go with it. Also picked up a couple different liquids and an eGo USB Charging Cable 420ma. All should be arriving in a few days from VapingZone.com.

Comments? Good buy or am I missing something?

Nice! I recommend a pair of atomizers (one to swap to if one is dirty) and a drip tip for testing juices because it's not good to dirty a carto with juice and then discover you don't like the juice. Also some juices you like may be too thick for cartos, or have too much annoying flavoring sediment for cartos, or just be occasional vapes and I drip to vape those. My favorite thin clear juices get cartos and travel with me to work.

Nice, thanks for the tips! One question however: What part is the atomizer? Is that the Mega 510 Cartomizer? Those are coming in a pack of 5 and I got 2 packs. Is it the eGo Tank Battery? Cause I got 2 so I can rotate them on charging.

Ego batteries are self-contained and sealed. On their tops - above the activation button - is a threaded part. On to this threaded part you screw either an atomizer (a heating coil) or a cartomizer (a heating coil & juice reservoir combined).

In this way, we talk about PV's being '2-piece' (battery and juice-soaked-cartomizer) or '3 piece' (battery, atomizer and juice cartridge)

I'm definitely going to try a few different liquids. Any personal favorite flavors?

A cartomizer is a cartridge and atomizer in one--it holds your liquid in its absorbent filler while the atomizer at the bottom zaps it into vapor. An atomizer by itself is just the heating element and you can drip your liquids directly onto it and then puff away.

Dripping is not always as simple as that though... and there are a lot of threads on here to help. As a pretty big noob myself I find cartomizers to work much more consistently and require way less time. Dormouse is right about filling a carto up with a juice just to test it though and then finding you don't like the flavor--in those cases I boil my cartos a good 3-4 times and let them dry. There's a lot of threads on here about that and many youtube videos as well, just search "cleaning cartomizer."

Two more pieces of advice: those smoktech dual coil cartos have a LOT of filler in them, make sure they are very wet before taking your first hit or it is very easy to burn the liquid-holding filler. Just search youtube for videos about filling cartomizers.

And lastly, buy a few 5 packs of other cartomizers as well--many people enjoy the Boge 2.0 cartomizers and V4L has quite a few that people like as well. Each can handle the same juice very differently: taste-wise, vapor-wise, etc. Don't give up on your whole setup and go back to analogs without doing a bit of tweaking on one thing or another.

Looks like you got some great gear.

The first time you use the dual coils, make sure they are FULL. I drip into them until they leak out the bottom. They will take over 50 drops! Some people use a syringe, some use the condom method. Then make sure you let them sit a few minutes so the juice has a chance to soak in. Do not worry about overfilling your cartos. If they are too full, you can blow out the excess juice. Before you put it on the battery, make sure you can see through the cartomizer. The middle of it should be clear of juice, as this is where the vapor flows. If the center has juice in it, lightly blow it out into a paper towel.

After the first fill, you can just add a few drops every couple hours. Fill until the filler material is squishy. The easiest way to refill is just hold the carto at an angle and drip onto the filler. Usually 8-10 drops are good to top of your cartomizer. Good luck, and if you have questions, just ask. You will find this is one of the friendliest forums online.

Thanks for the tip :) Honestly I didn't expect this level of helpful advice. Hopefully this thread has been of use to others as well.

I've never used cartomizers... I've always used the direct drip method, and that's been my primary way to vape. Worked great so far. Is there an advantage to doing cartomizers over dripping?

Are you not able to use the drip method to refill a cartomizer? I've seen a few different filling methods on youtube but I was thinking of starting by simply using the dropper to fill the cartomizer.

Edit:

After the first fill, you can just add a few drops every couple hours.

i'm new, too, and haven't dripped - so take with a grain of salt. dripping sounds like way too much of a bother. i got my first rig on monday (an auto Echo, thanks Bill from D & B). i filled my carto with 3ml of juice on monday. as of this very second, it's still going strong - no maintenance at all - other than switching batteries for charging.

I've been looking for a high capacity cartridge. I'll have to look into the Echo. For what it's worth, the Smoktech Mega 510 Cartomizers are supposed to be able to hold up to 50 drops, which I have read is about 1.5 mL.

a very good buy, indeed. i've tried many different setups, and this exact one is tied for first place in my book! (the Echo is my other fave)

None really. Some people just don't like to drip, or it's not convenient for them to drip. If you're happy dripping, I'd continue doing that. If your on the go and can't drip or if you drive, a carto is easier.

Welcome V... there's plenty of info and help here in the forum...take your time and explore the threads, get some reading in. it can be overwhelming at first, but every little bit helps. I'd pick up 2 or 3 atomizers with a drip tip, to start with when sampling juices, as others have stated.. having more than one, you wont have to wash them out as often if you try out more than one sample in the same day or so... that way, you can save 'filling' your cartomizers for the juices you like, and get a bit of time enjoying them...
