My first Mech Mod

I got my first mech mod last week, its a copper penny 1:1 with a copper tugboat 1:1 and I use Panasonic 18650 2900mAh 3.7v batteries. I had my first coil built at the shop and it was 0.7 ohms and was a decent hit. I decided to try my hand at building and my first coil came in at 0.4 ohms and is a really nice hit for a single coil. So, I decided to try to go to double coils with the same wrap and it came in at 0.1 ohms. Awesome warm moist flavor but the mech mod was getting hot so I took out the second coil and left it at a single coil at 0.4 ohms. I was using Royal 24g wire on 1/8" bit at 6 wraps for both coils.
I am not interested in vaping the mech mod on a reg basis, I only bought the mech mod for tasting as I am into making juices.
Any words of advice?:)

Yeah if your initial build came in at .4 ohms then by using the same build but as a dual should have put you at around .2 or the high .1 range like .18 - .19. If this is the case then your only pulling around 20 - 23 amps. The issue lies in your battery. I ran a search using the specs you gave and i came up with a Panasonic NCR18650PF 2900mah 3.6V with a 10 amp max. This means with these batteries you can safely only go as low as .36 ohms which puts you right at 10 amps. Do i suggest running it at its max no, but it can put i t out. Look into getting better batteries is my suggestion VAPE ON!

You can use the Panasonic batteries no problem, just follow Ohms law and stay safe. I'd suggest staying at .5ohm or higher with those.

The eFest purples are good batteries but the 35amp rating is misleading, that is a peak rating rather than continuous. I believe they are rated at 20amps continuous so use that when checking safety with Ohms law.

Download an Ohms Law app right away, can get them for iOS, Android, Windows, etc. so there is no reason not to have one handy!

Thanks I got to looking at my batteries and I have the Panasonics and I have the eFest 2500mAh 35A (from what I have read are supposed to be the same as the Sony Vtc4) so I will not put any of the Panasonics back into the mech mod and I will make sure that I do not go below 0.4 ohms anymore.

Well it's not that you can't go below .4 ohms. It's all dependent on what your battery can handle safely. Always know your hardware inside and out. I'm not bashing your shop, but there are shops out there that sell anything and say it's the best for cloud chasing, but in reality they have no idea what danger they are putting people in by not giving them detailed info on their products capabilities. If your ever in doubt google ohms law calculator and always check the amps your pulling. Sony's are the best in my book, but due to some recent activity it's been hard to find real ones out there. Efest are decent as well but just do some research to find what you need VAPE ON!

FYI, I am not wanting to go below 0.5 ohms on any of my builds. I am just learning how to build and this was my first build.

Instead of going extreme and finding out the hard way, I'd suggest you stay off the 24 gauge and get what most people seem to use: 28 gauge.
Build a 1 ohm coil; (I think the sweet spot is 1.2 ohms).

If you put 2 one ohm coils in a dual coil that would work out to 0.5 ohm combined.

Thanks I will do that. I just got what the guy that built my first coil used and tried to make mine like is, but epic fail. I am sure that I will learn a whole lot in the coil building class that I will be attending Saturday.

For an education on mech mods and rebuildables I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (our resident battery expert) and visit his blogs. There is a lot to learn regarding using both safely. Blog link is here. The blogs regarding mods and rebuildables are listed below:

BATTERIES

9. Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

11. Deeper Understanding of Mod Batteries Part 1
* For those who want to learn the differences between IMR, IMR/hybrid, and ICR batteries. What do those numbers and letters on batteries mean? What's an amp rating?

12. Deeper Understanding of Mod Batteries Part 2
* Protected vs unprotected batteries - what's the difference? Ohm's Law 101. What is an AW battery? What is an inline fuse? What is stacking batteries?

17. Purple Efest Batteries Not As Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

14. Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)

MECHANICAL MODS & REBUILDABLES

7. Information Resources for Your First RBA
* An essential read and referrance guide for someone new to rebuilding coils. Includes a multitude of useful links on battery safety, mod safety, coil meters, coil building, and the differences in the three types of RBA's.

15. Inexpensive Mechanical Mod and RDA Setup

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

How to Spot Fake Sony Batteries
Sony Real vs Fake.jpg

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

The efest is not the same as a vtc4. If i am not mistaken the efest is 35A max pulse 20A cont. The 20A rating is the important one
