I recently soldered together my first mod out of necessity. It is very simple, and yet I am perversely proud of having accomplished it.
I had a 901 manual passthru and 510 manual batteries and had been using them a lot. I was concerned, since I had started dripping, about burning out my 901/4075 batteries, so I bought a 901 manual battery to try out.
Well, it arrives and it won't fit into the full size charger because of the button!
I forgot that you need an extender to get it in there.
So, I got an old dead battery and atomizer, took them apart, and soldered thin wires to the positive and negative contacts of the female terminal, fitted it into the old battery tube, then soldered those wires to the same contacts of the male terminal, pushed it all into the other end of the tube with the wires inside, and used a multimeter to make sure the connections were good and there were no shorts.
Screwed it into the charger, screwed the new manual battery onto it, and ta-dah! It started charging. Yeay!
This little positive experience has given me some confidence to try making a simple box mod, perhaps a nicostik, sometime.

boy, it was a lot harder than it sounds- the soldering, which I haven't done for years, was difficult on those smooth brass contacts. And taking apart the atty and battery without damaging the tube or brass connectors was no mean feat either. The whole process ended up taking a couple of hours.

I know this is nothing compared to the mods people are doing on here. Just wanted to share my success at my first experience.

Here's a few pics.
