My first RBA......... need help and suggestion guide....

We... i have been vaping with vivi tank for quite awhile and decide to get me a new RBA and i picked Griffin Rebuildable Atty. I watched the wicking video over and over again and decided to try it out my self with the wicking thinking it will be like a knife through butter and boy was i WRONG~! I oxidize the mess 400 five time and two times with ejuice so total of of 7 times. Now, for the coil wrapping part, i have wrap it around and not tight ( I can still move the coil up and down without moving the wick).. but when i fire it up at 3.2v... i get different result:

1) Only the first top coil lit up, then it snap off the wick due to overheating.

2) light up

Shld the coil be touching the mesh wick? thank you for your help in advance....

Start with volts low then work up to stiffin the coil. Il pull my wick and fire it a hand full of times to stiffin it then put wick back it and turn volts to where i like and vape away.

What gauge wire are you using?

What is the ohm resistance of the coils that you are wrapping?

What battery device are you using?

I'd suggest searching pbusardo on youtube. He's got some nice, well lit and shot video's where he is rebuilding an atomizer. I found his IGO-L video the perfect companion for building my first coil on my IGO-L.

Try this:
See if you have a drill bit that fits into your wick hole with a little wiggle room. Or hex key, small screwdriver, anything around the same diameter as the wick hole.
Wrap your coil on it, and place the whole thing into the wick hole and fasten the negative and positive. Pulse it on your device a couple times to harden the coil.

Wrap a new coil, do not oxidise or juice burn, all that is not needed. Just go over it quickly with a lighter before rolling to get rid of any residue. Wrap it and then carefully place it in the coil. Have your device set at a low volt or watt and start pulsing it in short bursts, at first you'll se the regular top hot spot, but as you continue you'll see more and more of the coil will start glowing.
Keep going until you have a nice and even glowing coil. Fill and vape.

The griffin wick hole is quite small, i couldnt find anything that would fit snugly so i just wrapped my coil directly only a well oxidized wick. Its stiff enough to not mess up your wraps.

If its touching the mesh make sure that your you've properly oxidized the wick (which you've done from what you've written on your post). Also after you wrapped your coil make sure to apply some juice to build a nice coat. I am running a cobra clone on a lavatube v2 and have trouble with hot spots as well. I noticed that I forgot to make sure the wick was maintaining good saturation levels which sometimes causes hot spots. Another tip is work from top to bottom, making sure to move the coils around until all the coils glow evenly. Hope this helps and DON'T GIVE UP, its very rewarding when you get it. Trust me!

well, I finally got it to work.. i would say 75% but still not up to 100% full potential yet. The vapor is good but still have some burnt taste to it with a decent throat hit. I actually take out the fill hole screw on the griffin to vape, otherwise i see all the liquid coming out of the tank as i vape. When you guys first try building a RBA does this happen to you as well?? It is now at 1.6 ohms and i turn it to 3.7v to vape. The vapor and throat hit is not as good as all those pro on youtube, few days ago i tried to built me a Griffin RBA Tank and end up building a lighter, indeed a great progress for me to turn a "Lighter" back to a "Griffin RBA Tank" LOL

I will re-wrap the coil again to 5 round wraps with cig paper and see if this will work... fyi I am using the stock mesh and coil that came with the kit so i am not sure what is the coil resistance is.... the mesh i think it is 400.

Any other tips of building a a perfect Griffin RBA pls share with me your trial and error with a noobie lol

I dont use a griffin, but i can tell you that if youre getting a burnt taste my best advice would be dont ignore a coil that isnt great. If it's not lighting up evenly or you get hotspots or whatever dont just fill it with juice and go. Once you fill it and vape, you wont see it light up unevenly it will SEEM to be working like it should but really it will be burning your juice in one spot and tasting yucky.

Once you get a nice build going it should be like a fine wine and get better with age. Good luck!
