Hello everyone,

Before I start I need to thank everyone on the site for all the good info I've gained lurking from a distance. I have patches of heavy forum use mixed with months of no-use-at-all depending on work and such. Just wanted to share my experiences and story with people who might actually care, unlike my wife and co-workers :) Well, I take that back, wife is happy that I kicked the smoking habit and she's trying to catch up.

I tried to start a cig-a-like company a few years ago, maybe 2007 or 2008, but due to problems with equipment and just the stress of importing from China, etc., had to get out and I've tried various cig-a-like brands since them but none of them really helped my kick the habit. Go a blu a few months ago and started forcing myself to use it as a cig replacement, which cut me down to half a pack/day from a pack+. After I got down to the 5-10/day range and reading on this site a bit, I bought me an Ego clone with a clearo from a local gas station and that guy helped me get down to 1-2 cigs per day. Bought my last pack about Oct 27th and smoked 1-2 a day till that pack was empty, relying on my new gadget entirely for my nic needs. sometimes 3-4 if it was a stessful day. For my little counter on the computer I'm calling Nov. 1st my quit date, just to average a bit leaning towards the last time I purchased as opposed to the last time I smoked.

For a present to myself for quitting, I drove out to San Antonio and got me a Z-max and some 18350 batteries. By that point I had a twist and a couple nova minis, and quite a bit of juice, juice mixing kit waiting at the house for me. I'm going to need it so I can drop my nic level when I get home. I felt like I needed 24mg to quit, but when I got to 1-a-day I cut back to 18mg. Now I want to mix up some 5-10 range cause the 18mg is really too much. Feels like my tolerance for nic is dropping. I bought 1/5 liter of 100mg nic, just to make sure I have plenty on hand when the regulations start getting all crazy, and plenty of VG and PG and a variety of flavors so I'm all ready to go. I've dealt with a lot of chemicals before so I've no worries about smoke juice, I'm a novice chemist both by training and all the little hobbies that I've picked up for a couple months at a time.

Anyways, that's my story, been smoke free for the better part of this month and since I got my zmax haven't even craved for a cig and I can smell things again. Not sure if that's good or bad yet, but hey

Other than the phallic nature of my new toy and being around oilfield guys with it (devices are actually getting quite popular out here in the oil patch) seems like it's gonna be smooth sailing from here out. Just hope I stick with it.

Hi Geckgo,

Welcome to ECF! The best advice I can offer is this:

DON'T count your failures by the cigarettes you smoke, count your successes by the cigarettes you DON'T smoke!

Oh yeah, your sense of smell and taste will DEFINITELY change now that you aren't smoking. Things will be interesting for a while until it all sorts itself out, at least it was for me! I found that things I used to love taste like garbage, and vice versa!

Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies. There's no vapers on my current rig except for me, but a couple of company me I've been working for have them, so I've made better friends with them then most of the company guys that I work with. When I met them I had the eGo batt and they pulled out their mods so that was a little weird. Can't wait to work with them again so I can show of the Zmax.

fnouman, I can't speak for everyone but the big thing for me was forcing myself to switch. It's scary when you get to that last cig and you are ready to quit but you get the "what if something goes wrong and I NEED a cig? I better buy another "emergency" pack."

My last pack was labeled with a sharpie marker - "In case of emergency, break seal" and I left it on my work computer.

I think alot of us have that "emergency pack"! Me, I have 3 emergency cartons stashed in the freezer, (It's kind of satisfying knowing they're there and that in one year I haven't had to break into them once... Might have done, once, but folks here helped me through that bad time.)

I like that. There are no rules to quiting smoking. Only the ones we make for ourselves. I remember that when I got down to 5 cigs a day I considered my self a non smoker. (as opposed to the 2 packs a day) So sez I!

It did take me a month to finally stop cigarettes. I got to the point, where I could not see the point of buying another pack. If I could do with out the 35 cigs I could do with out the those last 5.

Congrats on making the switch, Geckgo! I think our quit dates align, and I'm starting to notice the return of smell, too. The other day, I noticed a faint smell of flowers as I was walking to the car. GOOD! I walked by my son's shoes yesterday, and almost fell over. NOT SO GOOD.

My last pack was labeled with a sharpie marker - "In case of emergency, break seal" and I left it on my work computer.

Ha! I tend to rebel any time I'm told that I CAN'T do something - even when it's me telling myself that I can't. When I finally bought my eGo, I decided to challenge myself and see how long I could go without a cigarette. The pack that I had left at that point is still in my purse over 2 weeks later.

I think that if I would have forced myself to stop cold turkey, I may have failed. By giving myself an escape plan, I was able to stop without internally panicking.

Congratulations on totally quitting!! Hoping I'll be there by this weekend. I'm down to under 1/2 a pack a day, but I know I can do it, because with the "e cigs" I quit before for 6 months about 3 years ago. I think I started again because I was mad at my husband of all the fool reasons.

I have figured out that for me the juice is the most important thing . . gotta have yummy juice. Have lots of samples coming in the next couple days. Hopefully some of them are winners!
