My Kayfun Has a Funk? Help!

I tried a kayfun 6 month back, really liked the way it turned out with an Ekowool build around 1.2-1.3 ohms. Good flavor, good vapor, I was pleased. Fast forward a few months and my Kayfun 3.1 starts to taste funky. I thought it was just the silica I was tasting so I stopped using it, thinking I had suddenly developed an aversion to the flavor profile silica wicks create.

Fast forward to recently, I have started wicking everything with Rayon. I've been loving it in my drippers so I figured a Kayfun build was in order. Built it up, the first build was junk. No vapor, no flavor. "What the heck?" I thought. I tore it apart and realized I had the coil almost sitting on the airhole. Derp. Fixed that, rewicked, wasted a few ml of The Virus in the process. I get it back together, works like a champ, good vapor, good taste... But wait, there's that funky silica taste again when I exhale though my nose.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing that? It's different juices, different wicking materials, different coils, the only thing I can figure is the Kayfun itself. It's a fasttech 3.1 ES clone, and a pretty good one at that. It's never given me any performance problems. Just this funny taste. It's been washed over and over.


Anyone have any insight?

Try to let the parts sit in a cup of plain vodka or better yet pure grain alcohol overnight. Another option is to get an ultrasound jewelry cleaner and use a vodka/PGA solution for a 15 min wash. That should get any old funk taste out of it.
