So I'm just getting into rda's - I only made 3 coil setups before the ones in this post. I've been busy trying different setups, with mixed results. I'm using 2 RDAs - UD IGO-W3 (5-post, 22mm), and the W7 (3-post, 22mm). I actually had the weekend off for a change, so all of this was over the last 2 days.
W3 - Quad Coil. Decided to build this sucker all the way. 28ga kanthal, 10 wraps per coil around a 3/32" punch. I initially had trouble with the wire breaking in the posts since it's so thin, so I put a small piece of 24ga kanthal in each negative post hole (on top of the 28ga) to avoid breakage.

Not the most symmetrical thing in the world, but all 4 were glowing evenly. I was surprised to see it producing only medium-dense vapor, and the flavor was pathetic at best. I tried reconfiguring the wicking, but little change. This is when my new atomizer showed up (the W7) so it was time to get her going. I decided to build the only coil that worked well on the old atty - 24ga kanthal, 9 wraps around a 5/32" punch. That was much better all around, so I vaped on it for, well, about 5 minutes but I was still feeling creative so I built the same coil AGAIN on the old W3. That's staying just like it is for a while because it's a pain to get the coils in since there's 5 posts.
Then more experimenting. On the W7, I built a dual coil using a pair of twisted 28ga kanthal, 8 wraps around a 1/8" punch.

I was actually pretty excited to try this setup. It heated nice and evenly but unfortunately, it produced nice vapor yet tasted like almost nothing, and took too long to heat. The wicking worked really well like this, but i was dissatisfied.
Next up: dual-parallel. I tried this with 24ga kanthal previously, and bailed out after the first side went poorly. OK, really poorly. This time I used 28ga, and the practice from the first attempt made this go much more smoothly. I did 5 parallel wraps around a 5/32' punch. This measured 0.29Ω.
Of course I was excited to try again, especially after seeing how fast these lit up while dry-firing before wicking. Oh. My. God. Once it was juiced up, the vapor violenty erupted almost instantly! I put the cap on and yes yes YES the flavor is awesome! Now, I've never tried an expensive RDA like a Plume Veil or the like, so I imagine those have even better flavor than my $35 little guy, but man, this setup made me finally LOVE vaping. Not that i was bored with it before, this build just made everything about it so much better. I definitely recommend trying it if you're able.
This concludes show-and-tell. Thanks for reading!
