I've been vaping about 2.5 weeks now, so take that into mind.

So I got in some pineapple [iVape] and wanted to try it out. I just wanted to drip, but I only have 2 atties. One has a burnt flavor after 3 drip sessions [i'll figure that one out later] and the other had fried apple [madvapes].

I was going to do a soak, but a small white funel caught my eye. Hrm....and the atty fit in the bottom So i turned on my sink on the hottest temp and let it drizzle into the funnel for a while.

Now here's a pro tip: don't think you can pick up a funnel that's got about a cup of scalding water and cup it to your face to blow the water through. Especially with a goatee that wicked up the water

Ok....so it wasn't all funnel cause i finished off by running about a cup of hot water through the atty hooked up to a syringe using a pen grip. Then blew it out with the syringe and then mouth.

I also checked by drawing on the atty for flavor. Is that a good indicator for checking the cleanses of an atty [using only water to clean them]? Maybe if using the other chems [what do you preffer for simple and deep cleans?] and letting it dry [or after the rinse] give it a drag to check for flavors?

Now to figure out my burnt tasting atty and carto Tips for those?

The funnel is a creative idea - I love it! I can't tell you how often I've scalded my fingers trying to hold my atomizers under the hot water. I usually go by smell to determine if I've succeeded in cleaning an atomizer, but I guess drawing on it would work, too, and you'll certainly know the next time you use it with e-juice.

The burned taste is usually caused by letting an atomizer or cartomizer get dry. Try adding some liquid to the cartomizer and try either adding some liquid to the filler inside the atomizer or dripping some liquid onto the bridge of the atomizer. Then puff it once or twice without inhaling and it should be good from there.

If your batteries are manual you might give this method a try.

This is a post from Highping on cleaning atomizers useing a manual battery or pass-through. If your useing 901C Mega batts a few pulsing dry burns as described below in-between Highpings works pretty well to drain your battery to a low enough voltage so that it will except a charge and burn off some juice build up at the same time. Remember to take a few primer puffs and blow them straight out to prime your atty coil.

Atomizer Cleaning: The Highping Method

This is the only method I use, and I have attys that are 4-5 months old and still going strong. One in particular, I have vaped well over 300ml through and it hits like the day (after) I got it.

1. Blow out any excess juice.

2. Rinse with hot water and blow out thoroughly. No need to dry over night, or anything. They have a built in dryer.

3. Connect to battery...preferably something higher voltage than stock. I use my PS pass-through but if all you have is stock, then that will work too.

4. Push button until you see orange hot...carefully...not super bright (white hot).

5. Let off button and blow down the barrel (from a distance, not with your mouth actually on it), this kind of flash cools it and also gets some of the moist air out to speed the drying process.

6. Repeat (steps 4 and 5) 5-10 times... you will see that gradually (once you've got it dry) the glow will occur much quicker.

7. Once you have it to this point, press and release the button at a rate that just holds the orange glow (kind of a manual 'pulse width modulate'). Keep this glow going for 20-30 seconds, being very careful to maintain the glow at low orange (not bright red/white) or you'll pop it.

8. Once you have done that, repeat steps 2-7 one more time.

At this point you will have an atty that performs like (or better than) brand new. I have used this technique with 510, 801 and 901 attys and it always works for me. I like this method because it is quick and simple. No need for any cleaners or overnight soaking. Takes 2-3 minutes and you're back in business.

** You do have to use some caution, as you can pop an atty pretty easily until you have the method down. I haven't popped one in quite some time though.

**Also, no need to remove the wick (that's in there for a reason), as you are baking all the gunk out when you do this. This is the reason for the second rinse in the middle of the process. You basically turn the gunk to ash with the sustained orange glow, then rinse the ash out.

If anyone tries this, give some feedback and let me know if you find any ways to perfect this method. Seems to work great, but there are always ways to improve

Edit: (some tips on the "rinse, dry and burn" stages of the process)

**Tips on the 'rinse' stage (step 2)
Step 2 is meant to get as much juice out of the atty as possible. The more juice you can get out with the water rinse, the faster you will get the atty dry in steps 4&5. (The water will evaporate off much quicker than juice.)
- Rinse by just running hot water from the tap first. Then once you have it somewhat clean, fill the atty barrel with water then (before all the water runs out), put it in your lips and blow the water through really hard. This will give all the nickel foam that's in the atty a kind of "power wash" and get most of any remaining juice out.

**Tips on the 'dry' stage (steps 4 & 5):
Steps 4 and 5 are meant to get the atty 'bone dry', before you move on to step 6 and the button pulsing.
-The more water you can blow out before connecting to the batt, the better. Blow through the atty really hard from both ends (not at the same time)
- You can also blow gently down the barrel (from a distance), while holding the button in step 4 to speed the drying process. This will clear the hot moist air out of the atty and allow for a quicker drying time. The key in these steps is to get the atty dried out.

Tips on the 'Burn' stage (step 7)
The whole key to not popping the atty is keeping a good visual on the coil, and watching the hottest part while pulsing the button. I have had a few attys that will get bright hot on one end of the coil and nothing on the other end of the coil. The way to make this method the most effective is to maintain that orange glow at the hottest end while pulsing the button. If you keep it up long enough you will see the glow slowly migrate across the coil. When you are all done the entire coil should glow when the button is pressed.

I can't seem to get my atty hot enough with my manual 510 battery to do a manual burn.

Try a fresh batt & keep up the burn for awhile keeping an eye on the coil. We have resurrected old 510 attys long thought gone with this method.

What do I do about the auto cutoff?

Haven't ever seen a 510 with an auto shut off but, pulse it, hold the button for 3-4 seconds let off for a second and hit it again, keep that up for 20-30 seconds, let it cool & hit it again. Cup it in your hand and keep an eye on the coil don't let it get to hot.

I do it with the Auto Cutoff. Its a PITA as you need to pulse it all the way till u reach the Orange zone. prolly take awhile because it cuts off every now and then. but if you pulse it, it should get the your 510 hot enuff to burn to the orange stage, but YOU MAY STILL POP UR ATTY if you do not monitor it!

My 510 just came in today. I started off with soaking the attys as I've read in several threads. I set up the batts to charge and started browsing some more threads. I ran across this thread and thought since I have 2 attys and some cartomizers on the way I could test R&C's advice and maybe get to try out my new PV sooner. The results were great!

Now mind you, the attys had soaked for about 30 minutes in isopropyl alcohol. I pulled one out and blew it out really well. Then I ran it under hot water for about 20 seconds and blew it out again. I hooked up a batt and started pulsing it. I could immediately smell the chemical-plastic scent as it sizzled. I continued until it finally started to glow. This took several minutes to burn off the moisture and get it to glow, pulsing for about 7 seconds at a time seemed to work best.

NOTE: Do this in a very dark room or you are likely to miss the glow. I think I'm lucky I didn't pop it.

After I kept it glowing for about 30 seconds and then blew on it until it cooled. I pulled the atty off and rinsed under hot water for about 30 seconds and repeated the process. After it started to glow again, I noticed the smell was greatly reduced. I rinsed in hot water once more and on the third time, when it began to glow, the smell was gone.

The kit came with some pre-filled TAB carts and my wife was dying to see it work even more than me. So I popped one on and we both tried our first vape. We were both amazed at the throat hit and the sweet tobacco flavor without the smell of burning cigarette. She immediately said... mmm waffle flavor would be awesome! I think she's going to make me buy her a kit this week

Given how well this worked with an atty right out of the box, this method has my vote. No foul taste, no wait, definitely a winner.

i only use 901 atty's. i never clean them , i blow out excess liquid, burn the crap outta them with my pass-thru. if they don't start back with good vapor , in the junk box they go, i got about 20 or 30 in there now.
when atty supply gets low i just go buy another 10 or 20 @ myfreedomsmokes. 40% off all hardware with his coupon, so they cost about 5 bux SLB.
