There are two bills in the Senate, SB197 and SB198, that will repeal the public smoking bans we now have in effect and replace it with a bill to include electronic cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes should not be included in this ban as they do not emit smoke but, instead, it is water vapor. They are simply a nicotine delivery system, not entirely unlike the nicotine patch, gum, or nicotrol inhaler. In the electronic cigarette process, the user does exhale water vapor. Aside from that difference, the only other difference is they actually work, unlike any other device myself, as well as countless others, have tried. I have personally tried the patch numerous times as well as the nicotine lozenges, Zyban on two occasions and Chantix on two occasions. Even with the electronic cigarettes, I still smoke 5 cigarettes a day, where as, I used to smoke nearly two packs a day. So, with you being in the healthcare field, you should certainly know that is a great advancement to quitting smoking altogether and I hope to be completely smoke free very soon. I have certainly noticed a vast improvement in my breathing and my energy level has increased significantly. That is why I can’t understand why we are under attack from the Government. It is bad enough when we have a Federal Government wanting to control every aspect of our lives, we certainly don’t need State government picking up what little freedom we have left. However, what is even more disturbing than that, is the fact that the American Lung Association, Cancer Society, as well as the American Heart Association are cheering this attack on instead of applauding us who have chosen a safer alternative. You being from the medical field should certainly see the differences between inhaling smoke from a burning object and inhaling a water vapor. Electronic cigarettes doesn’t contain any tobacco, it is simply food grade propylene glycol, food grade vegetable glycerin, liquid nicotine and flavoring. I, being a staunch conservative, an independent voter, and a lover of everyone’s personal liberty and freedoms, do certainly urge you to reject this further reach from an out of control government into our daily life and not let this go any further until section 17 is changed to exclude electronic cigarettes from this bill.

I hope you will consider the point I was eluding to as this bill goes through our legislative process and thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Sparky,
I'm no english teacher but my thinking is condense from 'Aside from that'- all the way to -'burning object and inhaling a water vapor'. I'm sure he is a busy man. One other thing I would want to add is something along the lines of 'we are not trying to skirt the law by vaping' -rewrite- I remember the wording in the bill lead me to believe they were pointing to us vapers as just trying to get around the laws as they stand now.
-just my thoughts.

Sparky -- this has been "touched up" by a teacher.....

here is a letter I am going to email governor Bentley I wanted to see what everyone thought.

Governor Robert Bentley
Montgomery Alabama

Your Honor:

There are two bills in the Senate, SB197 and SB198, that will repeal the public smoking bans we now have in effect and replace it with a bill to include electronic cigarettes in the ban. Electronic cigarettes should not be included as they do not emit tobacco smoke, but instead expel water vapor. They are simply a nicotine delivery system like the nicotine patch, gum, or nicotrol inhaler.
In the electronic cigarette process, the user exhales water vapor. Aside from that, the only other difference is they actually work, unlike many of the other products myself, as well as countless others, have tried. I have personally tried the patch numerous times as well as nicotine lozenges, Zyban on two occasions and Chantix on two occasions. With electronic cigarettes I have been able to cut down to five cigarettes a day from the nearly two packs a day I used to smoke. I'm sure you recognize that as a great advancement, and I expect to be completely smoke free very soon. I have certainly noticed a vast improvement in my breathing, and my energy level has increased significantly.
I can’t understand why those who have chosen to use electronic cigarettes instead of tobacco are under attack from the government, as many people have been successful in completely quitting smoking by using the electronic cigarette.
It is bad enough when we have a Federal Government wanting to control every aspect of our lives; we certainly don’t need state government attacking what little freedom we have left. It is disturbing that the American Lung Association, Cancer Society, as well as the American Heart Association are cheering on this attack instead of applauding those who have chosen a safer alternative to smoking. There is no comparison between inhaling smoke from burning tobacco and inhaling a water vapor. Electronic cigarettes don’t contain tobacco. The liquid is simply composed of food grade propylene glycol, food grade vegetable glycerin, flavoring, and liquid nicotine if desired.
I, being a staunch conservative, an independent voter, and a lover of everyone’s personal liberty and freedoms, urge you to reject this intrusion into our daily lives. Please do not let this go any further until section 17 is changed to exclude electronic cigarettes from this bill.

I hope you will consider my point of view as this bill goes through our legislative process, and I thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

You might add:

There are no medical reasons to restrict the sale of electronic cigarettes - indeed, the opposite. Also, this is not a new approach: Sweden reduced their smoking death rate by 40%, by the use of a tobacco alternative that does not emit smoke. This fact seems to have escaped the attention of the media [1].

The only group who gain from restrictions on e-cigarettes are the pharmaceutical industry, as their sales of quit-smoking drugs falls, and then sales of chemotherapy drugs, COPD drugs, cardiac drugs, and vascular drugs for treating sick and dying smokers. Of course, they want to protect this income - at the cost of thousands of lives.

A decision to restrict e-cigarettes therefore appears to have a financial motive, which may not be the impression that representatives wish to convey.

Sparky I like the idea of referring to ecigs as smokefreEcigarettes and referring to regular cigarettes as combustible cigarettes. The words themselves convey a huge message.

I think I would like it if that catches on. :rickroll: I am hereby starting the rumor that we've been calling them smokefreEcigarettes all along, but we shortened it to "ecigs" until our lung capacity returned to normal. :matrix:
