i'm of Sicilian decent and ate too well growing up
i got all the home made italian food made by a loving mother
one of my favorite dishes was eggplant parmigiana
my mom would always make it in the deep lasagna tray so there would always be some left overs for the next couple of days
she makes eggplant in many different ways and we ate it alot
she often put a whole eggplant stuffed with small romano cheese wedges [they don't melt] and garlic cloves in her sauce, this was set out as a side dish to the meal, i usually got most of it
eggplants and potatoes roasted with a few other things
you get the picture, i love eggplant and eat it by the pound
too bad neither my wife nor i can cook a meal like our mothers can

i can probably quit smoking if i get divorced and move in with my mom again
but it wouldn't cut my nicotine intake
today i came across the following and now understand my addiction

Nicotine in Vegetables
Dr. Norman F. Childers

If you spend three hours in a room with minimal tobacco smoke, you get about the same amount amount of nicotine in 5 oz. of potatoes, 8 1/2 oz. ripe tomatoes, 9 1/2 oz. cauliflower, and 1/3 oz. eggplant. Cooking decreases some of the nicotine. These results are appearing in medical journals (e.g. The New England Journal of Medicine) from the experimental laboratories of Dr. Edward Domino, University of Michigan and colleagues. Extensive research is needed with the food nightshades to determine the culprits causing the subtle deteriorating effects on the human body as well as livestock. The horticulturalists need to study the possibility of "breeding down or out" the poisonous culprits in the highly popular and addicting food nightshades.
