I know its not much to all of you fancy folks, but the only other e-cig I've ever had was a Joye 510 starter kit, so this is a big deal for me.

Parts I bought to build this: Joye Ego C Passthrough Battery, Kanger Mini Protank 2, extra long stylish looking drip tip.
juice currently vaping: Unicorn Blood
Bought from: myvaporstore.com - customer service/shipping was excellent!

So far I love the thing!

A couple questions I have about the Pro Tank though, since this is my first tank I've ever owned.

1. How long do the coils/atomizers last and how do you know when its time for a new one?
2. Can all the liquid be vaped until its completely empty, or must you always keep it half full?
3. Do you need to clean the tank and/or put in a new coil when changing juice flavors?

And lastly: one strange thing I've noticed is after about holding down the button for 3 seconds while vaping, I hear a loud popping noise and sense a tiny little shock like sensation on the tip of my tongue. It does this almost everytime. It's not terrible, it kind of sounds/feels a little bit like the candy pop rocks. I was just curios if this is normal, or if it means somethings not right. All my parts are screwed super tightly and there are no leaks.

Congrats on the new rig!! :toast: I hope not too many Unicorns were harmed in the making of your juice..

Your popping, taste could be from overheating your juice. If it happens after 3 seconds try letting go of the button after 2 1/2 seconds and pushing it a second time. This will give the coil a chance to cool a bit and wick in additional juice. :)

That's a nice little rig, will serve you well!!
The popping is normal. It's just the juice hitting the coil.

With cleaning and dry burning, your coils can last you quite a while. No set amount of times you can do that with them.
When your tank gets down a little below half, top it off. I use dark liquids so I have to clean mine out after the 2nd tank or it gets to tasting really funky. If I'm going to a new flavor, I take the whole thing apart and give it a good rinse and dry. I put in a new head and put the old one in a small sealled bottle of 91% alcohol to soak for a day and then clean and dry burn it and store it away for future use.
Good luck with your new Little Buddy and Happy Vaping!!

Let me add one thing on the heads.

Even after they do not clean well enough to be reused yet again. Stick them in a ziplock and save them. Those heads are SUPER easy to rebuild. So if in the future you decide to learn to rebuild or if the company discontinues the heads, saving them ensures you will have a supply to rebuild going forward. Not saying muck with it now. Just saying saving them hurts nothing and might prove beneficial long run.

Congrats on new set up! :) Sorry I am new and don't know enough to help you :(

But I would like to know how long they last too and my buddy got a shock from his ProVari and now I am all wigged out when I hit mine like its going to shock me with my metal drip tip, and I would like to know what causes this too.

I think what many people are interpreting as a shock is actually a tiny bit of hot juice popping off the coil onto their tongue or lips.

I went to a longer drip tip with a smaller opening and this does nto happen anymore to me. Yes the tips I use are still metal.

Hi Gummyblood,

Congrats on the new rig. It doesn't matter if it isn't fancy like some folks have, all that matters is that it works for you!

I recommend that you loosen up all your parts just a little bit, screwing them together "super tight" isn't actually necessary, they only need to be snug. If you screw on the tank too tight, it can push your battery pin down and cause problems. This can be adjusted fairly easily, but does put stress and strain on the battery. Same principle applies to the parts of the tank, over tightening can actually cause a seals to leak and possibly reduce the life of your tank, among other things.

As for your questions.

1. I get about 3 weeks (sometimes a little longer) out of a coil before it needs to be cleaned. I generally get between 2-4 cleanings out of each coil before they don't work for me. There are lots of ways to clean a coil, but just be careful to never use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, use grain (Everclear) alcohol instead.

2. I vape my tanks almost dry and have never had a problem, but many people have leaking issues if they don't keep the tank about 1/3 or more filled. Only way to find out if you will have any problems is to try it.

3. Cleaning and replacing the coil when changing flavors is not a bad idea, in fact, I would recommend it. I'm lazy, so all I do is take the tank apart and wipe it down with a paper towel. Sometimes I replace the coil, but usually I just wipe it down, and wrap it in a piece of paper towel for a few minutes to soak some of the remaining juice back out of the wicks. After I fill the tank, the first hit or two seem to be a mixed flavor, but after that, I can't taste the old flavor at all anymore. The one exception is with menthol juices since they are very difficult to get the flavor out. So if I am replacing a menthol juice with a non-menthol juice I will change the coil. It also helps to change to a similar flavor, like a sweet or fruity flavor for another sweet or fruity flavor.

HTH, Good Luck, and as always YMMV!

Nothing wrong with your set up, you're not smoking! I have a very similar set up, myself. If it works and you're happy with it, vape it :) I get the popping and crackling with a fresh coil. I usually do a dry burn when I notice it's not hitting very well, or when I get a burnt taste frequently. Once the dry burn is done, I swish it around in 91% alcohol, rinse it and set it aside for future use. I agree with keeping them when it no longer works at all. Though it's cheap enough to replace them new, I bought supplies (eventually) to start rebuilding the coils. Coils are lasting me weeks with regular dry burning.

and in regards to those who were helping me with the popping coil question:

after chain vaping my new little friend all day, it ended up randomly stopping and it hasnt happened for hours now. HOWEVER, I feel like the hit got a little bit weaker ever since it stopped crackling. now I actually kind of miss it....
anyway, glad to hear that was normal.

I have a battery question for you guys though

this Ego C upgrade has 2 voltage modes. right now its on the normal one. my question is, with the type of tank is it ever necessary to go up to the high voltage made, and if so, what difference would it make? this is my first variable battery so I wanted to be careful before just pressing all the buttons and possibly breaking it!

:p

thank you! so thats the name of the creator huh? I actually bought it at my local vape store/tasting bar & lounge, so I wasn't sure where it came from. it is definitely yummy! now that I checked out their site I realized I bought two of their flavors. Gummy blood was the one I fell in love with most. I even thought the name was so cute I stole it for my forum name :p

gummy, usually the higher resistance of the coil, the higher voltage required to vaporize the juice.

IIRC, the Mini ProTank 2 comes with a 2.5ohm coil and going with too high a voltage would end up with that burnt taste and possibly burnt wick. Sorry I can't be more specific - I'm not familiar with the Ego C. But I would venture to guess that the higher voltage setting would be for a 3.0ohm or higher resistance coil.

ETA: With your tank, you shouldn't need to go with the higher voltage setting.

Hey, we're neighbors :) I also chain vape. I notice a popping sound when I take too long a drag. I always thought it meant I was burning the coil or something so I try to avoid it. I use a ce5 clearomizer and an Evod with ego batteries.

With your CE5s, something I noticed as someone who also takes long slow drags...

A CE5 has the coil at the top where the long wick strings meet. You will need to tilt and swirl your device to make sure that coil stays wet. Sometimes for long draggers like us the wicks cannot keep up with out vaping.

The EVOD being a bottom coil has no such issue :)

Gummy - nice set up!! Love the pink. I have the pink pearl one. Heads for me only last a few days before I have to clean and dry burn since I use dark, sweet juices. Now I don't even dry burn, I just rebuild. I vape down to the bottom but sometimes I get dry hits when it gets really low. I clean my tanks when I make drastic flavor changes and usually that's when I'll change heads too.
