My Powertube Tastes...different?

Hello, I just got in my VV Powertube today with the DCT-V1 tanks from electronic-cigz.com. I was vaping on a V2 KR808 setup before moving up to this. The thing is, my flavor tastes WAY different from my 808. I wouldn't say bad, but different. I have 2.5 standard ohms in the tank, but they are dc's. Could this be why, dc? Could it be the volts, watts, etc. I set it at the same voltage as the V2, but it really tastes different. And even though I do not have an inline meter, everything does alter as I raise and lower the voltage. So I believe the device is working right. Anyone else experienced this?

Good call Critter, didn't think about the load on the slims. However I just tried it and it still tastes a little weird. Plus my vapor output and taste was almost none compared to the V2. It is almost like I lost taste with this setup now matter where I am at. I know I filled it right. Should you have to consistently drip thru the top with a tank? I mean, I know you do on a fill, but I wouldn't think so after that. Not to mention it tasted odd to start. This is driving my nuts!

I'm sure it's probably just the different cartomizers..you can get a 808 to 510 adapter to try using the ones you're used to..or maybe just buy different 510 cartomizers..with the LT you're better off with single coils too. The only other thing I can think is there is maybe too much juice on the coils..if it was too little you would know by the nasty taste. BTW those DCT V1 tanks are most likely SmokTech DC tanks as the look identical.

Hey Thanks for answering so quick buddy! I think you are right about it being the carto's. Again it isn't a bad taste, but almost like a loss of sweetness or flavor no matter where the voltage is at. How would that work, or how would I know if there was too much juice on the coils? I am new to tanks, so my way of thinking is that they are almost always flooded it seems in my mind. But this is coming from a long term user of filling and topping off carto's and they always fearful "center hole!" Haha. I agree everyone says that single coils are better. For some reason the kit I got only offered dc's. Matter of fact that is all the whole site offered. They were first going to ship it with LR's! They said it would vape fine at 6 volts. I told them to switch them for the 2.5 ohm SR's or forget it. Hell, I know enough to know that the LT is not LR friendly at high volts!

If you have extra unused cartos try just dripping juice in it until it's about the same as you used to fill your cartos..then put it on your VV tube cover the holes with tape or your fingers (or put it in an empty tank) and try it to see if that's better.

Yeah those tanks only come with DC if you but the ones with the cartos..you can buy just the tanks here~> Cartomizers E Cigarette Just scroll down..they sell them in 6ml or 3.5ml with chrome end caps or delrin..the chromes come in a few colors the delrin come in clear or smoke black tubes. I bought 8 tanks from them and 3 packs of CE2's..I use stainless XL 2.5ohm CE2's in my tanks. You also don't need the flange you can put most long 510 cartos (as long as they are normal sized around) in those tanks.

Thanks again! I will try a new carto and empty tank. I bet it is a combo of dialing in the same precise volts as before, as well as moving from 808 to 510, tanks, different company, fillers, SC to DC, etc. etc. I guess I was worried that I had done something wrong or something was malfunctioning. But, I guess it would be a totally unpleasant taste if it was that. And it isn't unpleasant at all, just different. And I have been using just one type of ecig, juice, and carto's for so long. I guess it's almost like switching from one analog brand to another. I will check out those tanks and carto's on that site. I would probably be better moving to SC carto's anyway. I guess one thing that bugs me about this is at work I plan to still use the V2 for size reasons, then switch to the LT at home at night. Maybe it would help to vape one flavor in one then a different in the other. Otherwise, it is that weird "this doesn't taste right" thing there between the two devices. I wonder if other people, or maybe yourself, that have multiple devices have noticed this when moving from one to the other with the same juice?
If I could tax your brain one more time, I would like to ask about how long, fills, or what have ya you get out of these "tank" carto's? Obviously they seem to be a bit more expensive then 808's.
And also, why would you "have to" buy a tank? Do they eventually break down, seals or whatever? Or is it more for being able to have different flavors loaded, etc?
Thanks a ton man for all the help. I have been vamping for a while, but I feel like a vaping virgin all over again moving in to this VV mod stuff! Haha. -Cru

I wouldn't know about those cartos lasting because I use CE2's in my tanks and they last months with a little maintenance. I bought just the tanks because I use different cartos (CE2's)..but yes the seals can go bad but you can replace them as they are just o-rings.

MadVapes sells seals for the tanks..but you could probably get them in just about any hardware store..if you look on MV link they list the size you need ;) To use other cartos in tanks they have to be long enough and the right size around..most 510 long cartos are the right size :)

Were those the clear poly-tube CE2's? If so I am super stoked! If not I guess that I'll have to figure out the steel versions. I love the CE2's and have been considering one of the Vision tanks since it is a top coil tank. Thanks for the info!

VC

In my tanks they are stainless XL CE2's that are slotted..the steel ones are pretty much the same as the clearos in fact some have been exactly the same inside others slightly different..some of the steel ones don't have the o-ring on the bottom because they don't need it they just have a press fitting.

I think if they run short of the press fitting they use the clearo version..the newer thicker CE2 clearos are probably too thick to use..might be able to force them in maybe..the old style ones would probably fit in a tank though but they tended to crack...

well something similar to whats going on here. I have used the 5v DIY box mod from madvapes for almost a year, same juice, same mix 20/80. I have just recently got the "lambo" and my juice doesnt nearly have any taste at all. I have been using the Boge 510 2.5 ohms for the whole time on the 5v mod but when i put them on the LT i have tons of vapor no TH and no taste. I thought if i were to crank it up i would get some results but still none.

I have used the same atty now for 3 months and never clean it. (Since i use the same juice and 5v pretty much self cleans IMO) I can put the atty on the 5v box and get all my flavor. Am I missing anything?

Are you using dual coil carto's? The Lavatube isn't very friendly to those. Especially the version 1 internals because of its amperage limit. Now, the atty would be a different thing, is it a low resistance atty? Basically LR stuff on any V.1 LT is going to activate the safety amp limit of the LT. Although a 2.5ohm carto should get you to about 5V pretty good unless it is DC. When I switched to the Boge 3.0 carto which most LT owners directed me to, I got all my TH and flavor back and then some! Also, I have experienced using tanks for me in general no matter what the carto can mute things. At least my tank/carto combo did! Don't know if you were using a tank with that carto or not, but thought I would throw that in there. I feel like the more I read your post the more I feel you are on a dual coil with that carto? I hope I am right and this will help, for I know that that was my whole taste/TH problem with mine. And I had 2.5ohm, but they were DC. And man, I had like nothing flavor-wise to even my slims! Once I moved to the single coil 3.0ohm, and got rid of the tank, I was knocked over by the flavor and TH! I hope this helps! Let me know.

I will check them out..

My current set up prior to the LT

5v Mod Kit
My Attys

My Juice
Cam-Blend 24mg, PG/VG: 20%PG-80%VG
Desert Ship 24mg, PG/VG: 20%PG-80%VG

Carts if used

Now I have the original map tank from COV with the 2.4-.26ohm ce2 in it. Have used this tank for about 1 year with no issues. I never used it on my 5v only my egos when i go fishing. I can put this on my LT and have some flavor but still nothing like the 5v drip atty listed above. I have the atty that came with the LT and doesnt do anything but sizzle. Even cranked up to 6v. Just very strange that I can use the atty above and get all my flavors and even TH but seems that the LT is either restricting or not allowing the correct set voltage pass through the atty.
