Hello all. Ok so this is my first coil I built just now. Its an IGO W3 dual coil at .8 ohms on a K100. It's hitting horrible and even the taste is horrible. Smells good though. I'm using 28 gauge kanthal, 5/64 screw, a lighter and tweezers. I started by wrapping the coil. From there I light the crap out of the coil and leads. After I'd light it, I used tweezers to get it close and tight as everyone does. I dry fired it to make sure it heated up evenly and it did. I worked out the hot spots by firing it in a pulsing fashion. I took my cotton, rolled it, and put it in the coils. I've watched tons of videos and especially from Rip Trippers so I have the general knowledge and basically followed step by step. From these 2 pictures can you see if anything is wrong? It's producing vapor, heating evenly but its tasting like crap and its really airy. I know to make vape you need oxygen but it's overly airy. and tastes bad. I dripped The OB by suicide bunny on the wick and coil. I know this is my first real dual coil build and not to get frustrated with it. But please if anyone sees something wrong or any advice please hook a brotha up. Tango Mike.

To me it looks like you could use a little bit more cotton, not alot but a little. Also it looks very saturated, which is why the vapor looks thin and not full. If it's too saturated its not vaporizing the liquid, it's just getting the excess out. What size air holes do you have? Also you need 2 for doing dual coils. The bigger the more vapor.

Did you wash your IGO before all this? My IGO W had a bit of machine oil on it when I got it as did all my other RDAs and I had to clean them quite a bit before I was comfortable with using them.

Other than that, and this may be personal preference, I like to have my coils as close to the air holes as possible to where they're almost touching the outer rim.

Yea I did over saturate it. And by more cotton.. Do you mean through the coils or not cutting the cotton so close to the coils? I also put the excess cotton kinda under the coil near the posts. I had the coils pressed down a little to be near the air holes.. I had it on the biggest air hole right by the coil.

First of all thinking of air flow if using the dual then opposite side of posts then you can place enough cotton for it to feed each other so if one does slightly heat up faster it's feeding via the cotton like a figure of 8 if using the larger quad holes you can block 2 with the cotton.

I'll try get a pic of my dual build up been using.

That's a 0.8ohm on .3 and it plumes still I'm using just dual air holes, the bottom of the coil is in line with the top of the airflow window.

I thought those types of set ups are for vapor production, not taste or vapability...

This is not true at all.

To the OP: You bought a 5-post RDA and you have a bit more learning to do in terms of airflow and maybe wicking. They aren't that complicated but its still one of the most advanced designs out there. Your picture isn't the clearest in the world but the coils don't look too bad as far as I can tell. Just do some more research, I'm sure you'll figure it out. Maybe someone here who owns a W3 will be able to look at it and tell immediately what the problem is.

The W3 is actually more of a PITA than the W or W4 as the holes in post are smaller and you have to think more about build also it has phantom screws they like to undo when you do one up, i had it running quad but was too much for my tiny longues.

Ya it looks like you have a lot more cotton then I have in mine. As for airflow.. You mean the two long holes directly under the two coils? Or the opposite side of the coils?

I'll try to put my other coil on the opposite side to achieve the figure 8. I'll put more cotton in as well and not over saturate it as well.

The coils are above the slots so as you can just see them and I'm using the dual set up which is 2 little dots rather than the slits ;-)

The air hits the bottom of the coils.

I only use it as a backup RDA or if got to many flavours.

I'll recommend what i would to anyone starting out W or W4 as they both the same dual drill out the hole to about 1.8mm and it plumes,

Ok will def put more cotton thanks. I'm looking into a trident clone or octopus.

The trident good i have an original V2 but can be an ... with the way the post nubs go on, mind you .6 of flat kanthal fits perfect and holds itself. seriously start off with a cheap dripper like a W - W4 and work your way up, you can get Trident with holes and screws rather than caps as I'd call them,

Does the W or W4 have holes predrilled? Or would I have to drill?

By horrible, do you mean burnt?

Maybe you should start with 1 coil.
