My son asked for an electronic cigarette for Christmas...which one?

I have used ecigs for a few years. Started on a small pen style, next an ego, then an iStick 50w with an aspire atlantis and currently using an iTaste MVP 2.0 with a nautilus and not satisfied with that set-up. He wants me to pick one out for him because he thinks I'm experienced but really I'm not and feel I've made some poor choices over the years. I've wasted lots of money...So I need help.

When I bought the iStick 50w with the Atlantis, I was happy for almost three weeks and then the iStick died so I'm kind of turned off on the eleaf brand. Don't know if I should be turned off on the whole company, just the 50w or if I just got a dud.

The iTaste MVP 2.0 combined with the nautilus doesn't have enough oomph for me and I've gone back to cigarettes for the most part. (gonna fix that soon....wish I could find a bogo deal)

He's tried to quit cigarettes with an eGo type ecig before and went back to smoking.

What would be a good starter set-up? Kanger Subbox Mini? Try another Eleaf? Another one that I know nothing about? Help!

Welcome @quietquitter

Gosh... what a question... :D

The 50w iStick was problematic in the early days, it's true. Eleaf, of course would never accept that or get drawn into warranty claims, it's all supposed to be done through the Vendors, and well, vendors are vendors. Most are useless.

The MVP version 2 (can't write V 2 anywhere on this forum) is a nice device but not really powerful enough for the Nautilus. I sold mine when this tank hit the market.

I have 4 iSticks and the 30w and 40w are good. I wouldn't recommend the 40w over the 30w unless you want to use Temp (TC) coils at high-ish power. Eleaf have done a magnificent job of selling a battery with more mAh that actually lasts a shorter amount of time when regular vaping.

(In other words, Eleaf have messed up...) (again...)

Not being a fan of Joyetech (too many broken eVics in the UK), I would personally go with Sigelei or Innokin.

For me, at this moment in time, taking everything into consideration the Coolfire 4 "plus" has got to be worth a look.
Sigelei 30w is cheap now, I saw one for $18...

For temp control, the Sigelei 75 looks great value. The IPV D2 is also inexpensive, but there is something about the charging that I'm not sure about.

I expect the world will tell you to buy Evic VT and VT minis. Yes, you could strap in and enjoy the ride with one of them.... as long as you know getting them replaced is very unlikely, unless the US has a better level of customer service.

I have nothing bad to say about the CoolFire 4! It's been a great device. Long lasting battery, easy to use, and plenty of power if I need it. As for tanks I can't really help. I mostly use cartotanks, and Kayfuns. I have used the Subtank Mini and like it a lot!

Another highly favorable to the CFIV. It's been my GoTo device of recommendation lately, and has been a big hit for a number of recent converts.

All things considered, it's tough to top as an intro device (IMO).

The CoolFire IV S version is soon out. Just a bit more wattage, but since it is based on the CoolFire, it should be a good purchase.

You mentioned that the eGo wasn't enough, in what way? That is something always to determine. As to nic content, go a step up. Also, as long as he smokes, flavor will be muted so don't expect much.

The Subtank Mini is a good all-around topper. Factory coils or he can build his own.

I go along with ckquatt and DP.

I'm in the same boat as you. I recently got the Eleaf 60 Watt from Vista Vapors and am having issues with my tank leaking. So far the device itself is working fine and the throat hit and flavor is good but time will tell. Just a heads up, It's been a headache going back and forth with their customer service to get issues resolved so try to be patient. I wish I could help more but this is my first Mod and I'm still learning myself.

Hi and welcome. Kanger Subox kit for removable batteries and no temp control. Evic VTC kit for fixed. For yourself, too. Use vapecrawler.com to find today's best price and coupon codes, being aware not all the responses will be from the US. If you send an email (to a smaller shop, not a big retailer) before you buy, you might get a deal on two of them.

I was impressed with pbusardos new vid on the innokn endure, easy device and awesome for smokers with next to no fiddle factor. A great vid for 'mokers;

I saw the price range about $30.ish, can use as a pass through and add a couple of replacement heads and some juice. Even a 5 yr tootle puffer like myself would love to have one to keep in my purse.

Vaporbeast has the Subox mini for 23.99.
Only reason I have not bought one is that is does not have a spring loaded 510 center pin.

Considering he's just starting out and you probably don't want to deal with separate batteries and a charger, I would suggest an Innokin product as well. The Coolfire IV, Disruptor or MVP 3.0 pro would make a great first all-in-one mod.
AHH but the VTC mini and the Kanger Subox mini have a removeable/changeable battery but a built in charger so you do not have to charge externally. less than $10 for a good HG2 and you are good to go.
Once the battery dies in the Coolfire IV is it just trash.

Evic VTC mini would be a great choice. It can be used as a simple mod or it can do more complicated stuff like temp control with next to any type of coil you can buy. In other words you can buy almost any type of tank or dripper and it will work without problems.
He can even use his phone charger to charge the battery (unless he owns an iPhone of course) as it takes the standard USB micro charger plug. It has one of the best displays out there and is still nice and compact enough to carry in a pocket.
Unless he specifically asked for a cloud creating monster, this would be a good and an affordable all-round performing mod.

Actually it goes up to 75 watts so it can also make some pretty good clouds.
Not a monster though :)

If you want quality avoid all Eleaf products , they are poorly engineered devices and Eleaf has proven to be a terrible company. I don't know why you would go from a 50 watt mod to an 11 watt mod in the MVP 2.0 but you should of bought the MVP 20 watt , 30 watt or even 60 Watt Pro , now those are high quality long lasting devices.

Right now you can get a Sig all aluminum 30 watt mod for $19.99 at VaporBeast , that is a very very good device and a steal at that price , perfect for your son or yourself.

The MVP 2.0 eleven watt device was made to be used with the regular Aspire Nautilus tanks and other lower wattage clearo's and works exceptionally well for those purposes .

That device ruled the world for years and has over 700 five star reviews at 101 Vape alone , i don't think there's a negative review to be found anywhere about that device .

The 20 watt MVP is exceptional imo and is built tough as nails but right now i would go with the Sig Mini for $19.99 before they sell out.

ELeaf is definately a terrible company when it comes to customer service but IMO the recent iStick 30 and 40TC are really good products for the $$$. I have both and have had no issues with either. Paired with a Nautilus or Nautilus Mini, they are both great vape kits.

I think the Kanger Subox is a better mod for a bit more $$$ though. A removeable battery is not a big deal for me, but might be for your son.

Oh I agree an Evic VTC Mini is an awesome mod and worth every penny. An innokin battery will die eventually but not anytime soon. If she wants to buy her son something that is all inclusive and well made it's hard to beat an innokin product.

My Vtc mini...
